Registering for De Anza classes (Urgent)

livethelimit, no problem! and i agree 100% with chillt…you should try and retake the test!!! however, if your teacher is attentive enough, he/she should be able to single you out as one of the people who were wrongly put in the class. it happened to my friend actually, and he was bumped up to college english the next day.

I do really want to retake the test, but I have to wait at least six months to do so. I will try to get into reading 211, but if not, then I will retake the test.

Also, if the waitlist is closed, does that mean I can’t add the class online?

Update: I’ve gotten into my geology class! woot! The professor has a 2.9 easiness, though…

correct, i believe if the waitlist is closed you need to add by the code the instructor will give you if he/she decides they have room in the class

Nobody said college was supposed to be easy! Work hard and you will do well.

Thank you, guys! I hope all will go well you guys too. I’m thinking of taking five classes my first quarter, is that a lot? My friend at UCSD is saying 20 units will kill me, but I also want to know what you guys think.

I feel like that’s one too many to be exact. The way I see it, if you have a crapload of prereqs to do, go ahead and take 4 classes ur first quarter. If not so many, then just take 3 classes…you really don’t want to overload urself plus you can use first quarter to figure out what clubs/sports/etc you want to get into. I feel it’s always better to take 3-4 classes and get straight As in them than take 5 and get even one or two Bs. I haven’t ever taken more than 4 classes at one time either, and for Berk/La/Sd/Sb I’ve had about 10 pre reqs to do, and I’ll finish with everything like igetc/prereqs by this winter.
sorry for grammar mistakes/incoherency I’m typing this on my fonee!

Alright cool! I currently have 12 units now (three classes). Ahh, hoping to get into precal. The reason why I want to take 5 classes is that I feel I might not finish my prereq for the schools I’m applying to, reckoning that I also need to complete the IGETC. I think you’re fine way you articulated yourself.

Units really aren’t a good indicator of your work load. It really depends on what classes you’re taking.

I took 26 units one quarter (none of them were online classes either) and managed to get straight A’s by just spending 2-4 hours a week on homework/studying, but my classes were 1 philosophy class, 1 sociology class, 2nd quarter english, 2 anthro classes, a psychology seminar and a music class. The next quarter I took 19 units, but I ended up taking 1st quarter general physics, 2nd quarter general chem, 1st quarter bio and 3rd quarter calc. No where near the hardest possible quarter but definitely much harder than the previous. After that quarter, I never took more than 1 science or math class per quarter.

In general, math/science classes are more time consuming, unless you’re just naturally talented at them. English, philosophy, history and other writing heavy classes are usually easier, but can be time consuming depending on your teacher. Social sciences are usually considered fairly easy. Taking a lot of units in one quarter is fine, but you should balance your workload across the quarters based on work load, not units. Try to split up some of the harder classes so that you don’t take them in the same quarter, and make sure that any unit heavy quarters are filled with less intensive classes.
