WHY 6 years?

I saw a statistic that a high percentage like 90%? of undergraduates take 6 years to graduate.
WHY?

6 years is crazy long.. 2 more years of tuition.. since i'm an international n would have to pay a lot, instead of paying 6 years i would rather go to a 4 year private..

why is it? i heard its hard to get classes... but 6 years is way too long..

I think you misread the statistic. 42% of the students who started in 1999 graduated in 5 years or less; 14% graduated in 4, and the trend is getting better over recent years. It's entirely possible to graduate in 4 years, but if you change majors, or don't get high enough grades to qualify for some of the selective programs it can take longer.

heres from princetonreview.com

Admission Stats
Freshmen Returning for Sophomore Year: 84%
Freshmen Graduating in 4 years: 14%
Freshmen Graduating in 6 years: 53%

so that means only 15% of the students graduate in four years.. and only half of the entire freshmen class will graduate 6 years later??!

why? people slack. it's completely possible to graduate in 4 years. I don't think that classes are hard to get.. well they might be.. I might just be lucky and have always get early registration dates.

If everything is done right(no slacking off, trying to get classes on time, etc) is it still possible that you still wont be able to graduate on time, because I heard the same thing from a teacher at my HS. She said it's because there is so much people.

It has nothing to do with the amount of people and not getting the classes. If you're smart and able, you can easily graduate in 4 years. Most people end up switching majors/failing classes/slacking (why would you want to leave SDSU?)....so it adds to these "poor" statistics. Go take a look at UCSB same sort of deal as SDSU. So I wouldn't worry.
