I think all us new incoming freshman need some knowledge on some of the best (and worst) classes to take. Personally as an engineering student my schedule is pretty much locked in as English 01A Calc 09B and Chem 01A but I really need ideas for that fourth class. So I'm looking for mainly a philosophy or history class with some pretty laid back and interesting content. Also any terrible profs or courses to look out for would be great

Hist 20 is supposedly easier than Hist 10 or 15.

Personally I really enjoyed 20, and I’m not a history person, at all.

riverside09 - Professor Ransom retired so he won’t be teaching hist20 in the fall. =P

thanks i assumed hist 20 would be easier since it is more recent and shorter time span. sounds like a good class. is the work load heavy? i heard it has a couple of term papers. just want an easy first quarter that’s all

It depends on what professors you get. I took hist 20 last quarter and it was mostly reading and a few short papers. But like x8equalsDtilde said Professor Ransom retired to I don’t know :/

I would also like to know what is a good class to take for breadth requirements…please anyone? Thanks so much

I’m going to be majoring in mechanical engineering, how can I get back on track for English? Because I got placed into English 004, and I want to stay on track and graduate in 4 years. There’s no way I can do a summer course this summer to complete eng 004, when will I finish English? Thanks everyone!!!

Cool I think I might take that. Has anyone taken the religion myths and rituals? Im kind of curious about that one too.

I took History 15 with professor Wilkie and it was pretty easy too. She’s kinda corky and funny and attractive. You read two books, 1 paper, a midterm and final that are mostly key terms and an essay question. Im taking intro to archeology right now its pretty easy too. I’ve also heard creative writing and intro to logic(theres another name for it like critical thinking or something its a philosophy class) are fun and interesting. But all the good breadth classes are probably already taken so ya gotta take what you can get.

Decided on BIEN 10. And CS 010 and HIST20 as my back ups. Does anyone know how hard BIEN 010 is?

@adblock0
hi im just curious, what is bien 010? ive never heard of it before haha

Ablock0 - i took rlst12 with prof. o’connor. If you take it, you won’t have her as she retired too. the way she structured the class, it was pretty much all based on the three two-part midterms (no final). The midterms all consisted of an vocab section and an essay section. Vocab was okay for the first two cause there was a word bank but harder for the last one because there was no word bank. The essays (which are graded by your TA) are what’s going to make or break your grade. I didn’t read all the books completely (and only one was on cliffnotes) or study that much, but i joined in on a study group and that helped me a ton. I thought the essays were pretty easy, even if i wasnt confident that i knew what i was talking about. ended up with an A-. I would only recommend this class if you’re good at writing detailed essays on the spot. Also, it’s a ton of reading, but the reading isn’t from dry textbooks.

keep in mind that everything i just said only stands if the new rlst12 professor structures the class like prof. o’connor did.

ps. prof. o’connor let us have a cheatsheet for the essays.

Bien 010 is just a 3 unit intro to bioengineering. I think I’ll save all my breadths for my last two years. Rlst sounds pretty nice but I’ll take it once I know how the new prof is. Same with hist20.

Try PSYCH 1 or 2, I’m pretty sure they’re less time-intensive than philosophy.

I passed AP psych so ima do an upper level psych class to fulfill my upperlevel breath req
