So I sent in my application for RA, and I told Cal Poly I was currently taking AP stats my 1st semester of Senior year, and planned to do so for 2nd semester. Now Math has always been my weakness, and AP Stats is kicking my butt! I will just barely get a C this 1st semester. I dont want to risk getting a D 2nd semester (when the class is even harder) and forfeiting ALL my college apps over this. I was thinking i’d be best to drop it 2nd semester (I’ll still have the 3 years of Math needed at that point). Will they reject me if they find out I didnt take the 2nd semester when I listed my app as saying I was planning on it? Advice?

If you are going to drop it 2nd semester, it’s important that you email/call the admissions office so they can make that note on your application. They will ask for transcripts to make sure you actually took the classes you reported.

My take is that it would not be an issue… as long as you complete all the necessary CSU classes. They are looking for total GPA… not a specific class you took. Same with the UC’s.

You can call CP and ask who your admissions counselor is… and ask him/her about this issue.

They add admission points based on how many CA a-g courses you take. Math classes count the most. You will get points for planning to take the math course. If you don’t take it, you will lose those admission points. They will recalcualte your admission points after they get your final transcript and you could lose your spot. That’s how people on the wait list get in. Also, if you have not maxed your honors/ap bonus points for the calpoly gpa calculation, then that could go down as well. Just understand that if you drop the course you will be reducing your admission points. It is certainly better to reflect that as part of the admission process now. The worst case would be losing admission in the summer and having no place to go.

Well, what if I changed my 2nd semester course to say Algebra III? Would that be a better scenario for myself?
