Regular Decision--Anyone heard yet?

Just curious if anyone has heard from Lawrence yet, RD.....

I am still waiting :frowning: for RD too.

Well technically I applied Regular Decision but since I got my notification last month, I believe the coach bumped my application to EA? Not sure though

Yesterday I received my notification.I am lawrence student :)

I got into the Conservatory and College today! I have to pick now between Lawrence and St. Olaf…the more I think about it the more difficult it gets, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be Lawrence for me next year!

Bizzie, how did you find out? Also, where are you located?

I got in March 16  … I am still waiting on other colleges to weight my options but I think I will be going here :). Vicky, Bizzie what about LawrenceU do you like? Have you guys visited the campus or planning on it anytime soon?

i got in EA and finally chose Lawrence this weekend! It’s quirky, great academically, has great study abroad opportunities and great music.
is anyone going to the admitted students day on april 14 (i think it’s the 14th)

Sopranomom92: I live in Middleton WI, and I found out via snail mail.
I absolutely Love Lawrence. I visited mainly the Conservatory because I was there for my audition. But I did the tour, ate there, walked across campus to get to my interview - so I’ve seen a lot of it…But what really made the campus IT for me were the people. My interactions with the faculty, and the students were so great. Like gambatte said, It is quirky, and fun, and all the people I met there (and there were a lot) are truly genuine and sincere people. I just…Loved it. I still have to make my final decision though. Right now it’s down to St. Olaf and Lawrence, I think my visit there made it a pretty easy choice.

Gambatte: I think I will be going with you that weekend, lemme jes ask my parents of course :)

Bizzie- um, i meant will i see any of you there. if you live near by me, i suppose we could go together but I think i’d have to meet you in person first! lol aight…

Gambatte- I’m sitting right next you you jerk. and you’re coming over to my house tonight -don’t you start making me out to be a creeper.

Gambatte are you Japanese?

No. Gambatte and I both take Japanese as a foreign language.

Bizzie, my daughter is also deciding between St. Olaf and Lawrence (although she’s still waiting for scholarship info from St. Olaf, which could definitely tip the balance, as Lawrence was very generous). What are the factors that lean you towards Lawrence? Does it just come down to gut instinct, or are you more rational about it? Thanks!

My daughter goes to Lawrence. Some things to think about between St. Olaf and Lawrence -

I believe St. Olaf has a great Choir program. Lawrence has a great music program, and good choirs.

Lawrence also has strong academics, and the weather is a little better (though not much).

Does Lawrence have a nice campus? how is the party scene? and how far is it from Chicago?

I really like appleton, the fact that it is a small city is perfect for me. But can you guys tell more things about Wisconsin? I am an international student from Peru.
Lawrence is great for me, it is a small college and it has everything I want!

sopranomom: Well, I think the best thing your daughter can do is decide what she thinks is important in a college. You asked if it was a gut instinct or more rational - I think it’s a little bit of both. I have a ‘hunch’ I will feel more comfortable at Lawrence than I would at St. Olaf. The people at St. Olaf are definetely nice, I felt comfortable enough. But I’m African, and even though I’ve grown up in the U.S. most of my life, and even though I go to a very homogenous private school (my high school is of 30), the lack of diversity was obvious to me at St. Olaf. I personally found Lawrence more advantaged in that aspect, and there is a definite international pressence and awareness on the campus that I noticed when I went and have truly come to appreciate. Also, like OperaDad said, St. Olaf has a great Choir program. But when I rationalized my interest in music and where it would be better served, I realized that I’m more interested in developing my skills in a great music program at Lawrence Conservatory, rather than in a good music program at St. Olaf College. Money was also a factor - I also have yet to hear about FA from Olaf, but Lawrence gave me a great scholarship too, so automatically, I’m more bent towards going where the money is, you know? Proximity to home was a major plus as well as I have a 7 year old sister, and it’s more convenient for me to come home when school is under two hours away rather than 4 or so that St. Olaf is all the way out there in Minnesota. Don’t get me wrong, it was a really hard choice, (St. Olaf is great), but when all was said and done I had to choose the place that I thought would best help me achieve my personal and academic goals - Lawrence is that for me. It really comes down to the things we prioritize. Once you figure that out though, you just choose the place that does it better
Oh! And…I guess the fact that my best friend will be there too was kind of just the icing on the cake. :)

I am deciding between Lawrence and Syracuse. Any help?

expanding, ahem, on ‘the gut’ comment previously: quick comment that the food at Lawrence is excellent - fresh, tasty, healthy and a good variety - and I am pretty sure is the same vendor that does St Olaf’s food.

Last poster: I assume you are speaking of Syracuse in NY state. There would be the differences, pluses and minuses , between a big school vs a smaller school asfar class sizes and student access to profs. Climate is probably about the same - aren’t they around similar latitudes?

LU has strong challenging academics. If you like that sort of thing vs ‘just enough academics’ to get by to get your sheepskin, LU is a good choice. Not sure about Syracuse’s academics.

PR academic rating from stundents viewpoints 99 or a 100 is tops:
syracuse 82 (not bad for a big school)
LU 96 (not much time for TV  )

<a href=“College Search | Find Colleges | The Princeton Review”>College Search | Find Colleges | The Princeton Review;

From my soph daughter’s experience so far at LU, it seems that the program is rigorous as if the students’ end goals were higher degrees. Here is some of the company LU keeps, or the ‘class picture’…

Where are you from ? Is it at all important to you to be a car drive to home? Depending on where you call home, it might be more expensive to go home for one over the other.

Extracurricularly:

Is music important to you? Music at LU is great and there are lots of opps to partake in good music with people who care about it. Not sure about Syracuse. I think I have seen them in the NCAA D1 basketball tourney over the years. So there will be that painted fan’s face in the stands vibe there, I suspect.
