Regular Decision Applicants

I am posting this discussion so that people can communicate during this application season! Feel free to leave stats! As a major outlier in the application pool, I felt obligated to make a way for us to keep each other posted on the admissions process!

Stats:

ACT: 23 (24 if super scored)
GPA: 3.2
Lots of Honors and AP classes

Lots of volunteer hours and extracurriculars

AU is my absolute top school ( and a reach school)!

I’ve received mail stating that decisions will be mailed on the week of March 17th!

@singitbrookieg - Do you know if they also e-mail decisions and when that happens?

Could be possible that applicants receive email acceptances before mailed acceptances as they have in the past

@bk4972b - Any idea as to when e-mail acceptances might be going out? Are they usually sent the same day (presumably, March 17th) that snail mail letters go out? TIA

@Hoggirl - No clue about when, but in the past few years students have received email acceptances before snail mail. Sorry!

When reading other years’ posts, emails were only sent to international students. This year may be different, but I would expect snail mail.

I think you may be correct, singitbrookieg. My daughter was an RD admit last year and only heard through snail mail. No email, phone call - nothing else before the thick envelope. Good luck all!

i’ve heard from many sources that the snail mail will be sent the week of 3/17!! i’m getting so excited. it’s a lot sooner than i thought!

I’m honestly scared to death about this decision because I know I don’t have the grades to get in.

Snail mail is tough on those of us who live where it still seems to come in on a mule train! Ha ha!

March 17th?! That’s pretty exciting. I thought I’d have to wait until sometime in April.

Can’t wait to find out. I figure that I will probably get in, but I am very much worried about scholarships. I’ve read that they typically give out a max of about 20k/yr for merit, which my dad definitely won’t go for. It would stink to get in but not be able to go. :(

Yeah, same thing here. I get the idea that American isn’t terribly hard to get into so long as you have the grades and scores. The real challenge seems to be getting aid.

At least you all have a decent chance of getting in! I’m just crossing my fingers on this one!

hi everyone:) just went to American University’s open house today…and got alot of info…like yea tey are sending the decisions ONLY through mail On march 17th…so if u live nearby u could get them the 18th…on ur acceptance letter it will tell u if u got into any of the special programs including honora. Also included will be ur financial aid package…this year they r giving more money out on need based aid rather than merit based aid. Also only 45 stidents in honors program and 1,600 freshman for upcoming year…!!!

Thanks for the info!

Anyone hear back about the Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars Program?

nope

the calls for the fred douglass scholarship happened last week
