Anybody else going? Any current students who have been before that can tell me about it? It sounds like such a great opportunity.

I can tell you that Son attended Reilly Weekend~he had a very good time. Met some other prospective students that ended up attending ND and has stayed in touch with them. (Son just finished first semester) I know there have been several functions he has attended since being on campus as well as a reception that we attended with him during orientation. I think it provided him an opportunity to get to know ND current students as well as make friends with other incoming freshman before he even arrived at ND. He really had a great time--if you have been invited to attend, I would recommend attending. And, best of all, ND picks up the tab for everything. I guess this is one way of offering something to top students since there is no merit money.

Are u talking about the Spring Visitation?
I just got an invitation to an all expense visit to ND during spring break
Feb 22-25

I had a great time, and the best part is that everything is paid for. Basically you spend a weekend with a current student and see pretty much every aspect of the school--social life, classes, professors, the campus and all of its buildings, etc.

You'll see a LOT more than a simple campus tour can show you, since you essentially live as a Notre Dame student for three days--e.g., you'll live in a dorm room, go to the dining halls, have access the rec centers, etc. Plus you can experience what ND students do for fun, like going to the student center (LaFortune), going to dorm parties, going to performances, etc. You'll also go to classes, meet professors (you'll probably meet the department heads of whichever department includes your intended major), have dinners with higher-ups in the administration, etc.

I'm purposefully using a lot of "et ceteras" because they really give you a lot of options during the weekend, and leave everything open-ended. There are a number of activities that everyone goes to, but you also get a lot of time to do whatever you want to do--whether its on the list of campus events they give you, or just something you feel like doing (it could be to just go to your host's dorm room and sleep; that's something I opted to do at one point because I was so tired from all the other stuff I had been doing).

And on top of all that, they give you a tour of Notre Dame stadium. So it really is a great opportunity that I promise you will not regret, whether or not you ultimately choose to attend the school.

Oh and I almost forgot, if you do come to Notre Dame, you get to go to an annual dinner with Mr. Reilly (who obviously sponsors the weekend).

If you have any specific questions, please ask!

thanks guys- i think i'm definitely gonna go...it sounds like a lot of fun.

"Are u talking about the Spring Visitation?

the one i'm talking about is March 22-25.

K i didnt make a mistake on the month, mine is during Feb. In the letter, it said that i can contribute to the multicultural atmosphere, so i guess it is for different reason. Well i was planning on visiting ND anyways (late Jan.), but the all expense part is great. I am definately going. lol

Im assuming this is for admitted students only?

What is Reilly visitation weekend? Who is invited?

Chillin- yes, it's only for admitted students

Trance- it is an all expense paid 4 day visit to ND in march. i got a letter about it a few days ago. i heard that it is for the top 10% of EA admitted students but i'm not sure how many people were invited.

wow congratulations ihaterunning.... now thats an accomplishment..... I hope you take up the offer

thanks chillin. i was so excited just to get accepted i really can't believe this. i'm planning on going (and i get to miss a day or two of school)

hahah thats so baller....

I think im going in late april for a visit....but im not sure yet

I was invited, but I don't think that I will be able to make it for the Reilly Weekend. I hope to visit in February.

I attended the Reilly Weekend last year and really enjoyed it! There were about 80 students last year; I'm not sure if the number is the same this year but I know every year, they invite more and more people. The weekend was a great chance to sit in on classes, live in a dorm, eat in the dining hall, meet both current and prospective students, and get an accurate portrayal of how life at ND is, much more so than an admissions tour and information session would. A big part of my decision to attend ND was based on my experience over the Reilly Weekend, so if you are fortunate enough to be invited, definitely go!

In an email I got today (apologizing for a typo in the last paragraph of the letter), they note that their initial invited group this year was limited to 91 students out of the 1,335 Early Action admits.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend as it conflicts with a scholarship interview weekend at one of my other choices. However, I will probably try and work an overnight visit at ND in on my trip to the Midwest in February.

If anyone was invited but can't make it to the weekend they were invited to, you should check with the admissions office as they told us this year that they are also having a second Reilly Weekend for the regular admission applicant pool, and I'm sure they would be glad to have you along then.

I went on Reilly last year, and to tell the truth I think it had its highs and lows. I already knew I was going to ND and just looked at it as a 4 day all-expensive paid vacation. Something that really turned me off that weekend was that it seemed like I was the only person there that knew I would be at ND this year. One of the things I love so much about Notre Dame is how much everyone WANTS to be here. There are of course many people that wanted to go somewhere else but wound up at ND for one reason or another (and of course they wind up loving it) but for the majority of people ND was their first choice. I spent the entire weekend hear most of the other other students there saying that they were waiting to here from the Ivies, and that ND was where they would go if they didn't get into any more selective schools.

I would recommend to everyone that goes to make sure you pay attention to the students that you are living with in the dorms that are current ND students to get a picture of what its like here. I found my first semester to be amazing, even though Reilly weekend caused me worry.

Definitely take advantage of the opportunity. It is quite an honor to be invited to the weekend, and heck, its free. I should be clear that while there were some parts of the weekend that did turn me off, there were more parts that got me excited to come this fall. Hanging out in the dorm with the guys (even if it was Zahm...), eating in the dining halls, walking around the campus in the spring air, going to mass in the Basilica, meeting with professors and going to classes, and many other activities all give you a good idea of what life at ND is like. Plus, as someone mentioned earlier, you will be one of the select few that gets to take a tour of Notre Dame Stadium. And heck, if you're REALLY lucky, maybe I'll be your host! Kidding, of course :-)

I'm a bit confused. Does Notre Dame invite any RD accepted applicants for a visitation weekend, and if so when? Thanks

wildcat, i read somewhere that part of the reason for the reilly weekend was to convince prospectives who most likely got in to a bunch of other really good schools to come to ND; they probably wouldn't bother to invite a bunch of people who are completely sure already.

This year will be the first year that any RD accepted applicants will have a weekend, but I'm not really sure about the details. Jacob Baska (one of the admissions counselors thats in charge of Reilly Weekend) mentioned it at our dinner reunion in the fall.

Whsswim, they invite what they consider the top 10% of the accepted early applicants - they have no idea who is completely sure or not. It just so happens that since the top 10% is so qualified many of them are wanting to go to Ivies and the like.

wildcat, I called the admissions office and they are setting up a 2nd Reilly Weekend in April; I will be going then!
