Reimbursement on mileage driven to I-day

We had heard that the miles we drive to bring our son to I-day can be reimbursed. Does anyone know how much a mile they riemburse, where and what kind of forms are needed to be filled out, etc? We will be coming from Colorado on a pretty direct route. Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure about the mileage but if you keep your receipts when you stop for gas, they could probably reimburse that. I'm from CO too, congrats to your son!

You--rather, your mid--will submit a reimbursement form for expenses. I think this form is in the permission to report packet.
Reimbursement is for airfare or mileage BUT the reimbursement comes to your mid, who may or may not notice it about Octoer of his plebe year.
Parents, who probably incurred the expense, do not get a check.

We are coming from CO as well, but we were going to fly. Do we just make the reservations for our plebe or do we have to use a specific carrier? I know as far as driving to USAFA for I-day, in order to be reinbursed they said the car had to be registered in the cadets name, I don't know about USNA.

Instructions regarding travel will be provided in the permit to report. The GSA rate for mileage reimbursement is currently $0.505 per mile. However, reimbursement will not exceed the cost of a GTR (Government Transportation Request) (i.e., Gov't provided ticket).

For informational purposes only, USAFA limits mileage reimbursement to $0.20 per mile for reporting candidates.

All reimbursements are made directly to midshipmen. The candidates are reimbursed from their travel orders, which means there is no contractual means to reimburse the parents for any expenses they may incur.

Does this information come in the permit to report packet?

Yes
