Alright, I received the first flyer from Carson Wagonlit that came with the Appointment. I've got a few questions...

1) What all do they pay for? I read that you can buy a package with a shuttle ride, hotel, and breakfast and such, so I'm assuming WP only pays for the plane ticket but no related incidental expenses. Correct?

2) If I fly with my parents 7-10 days before R-Day, will WP reimburse that? I'd like to take my parents on one last tour of the East Coast, so I'm just wondering if that would be reimbursible. If I were to fly to Virginia or DC, would they pay for that?

3) Will WP reimburse a rental car in lieu of a flight? In addition to a flight?

They will reimburse your flight and the use of a rental car but...
You must have all appropriate receipts and documentation to get your money. For a car, they will pay you so much per mile of travel. Hope that helps.

Last year the package included the hotel stay near the Newark airport and the bus transportation from the hotel to WP the following morning.

Wagonlit Travel arranged for the flight and sent my d her flight information and confirmation numbers. Using this information, she picked up her boarding pass at the airport that morning.

My d saved all her receipts for her meals, water, etc. from the day she traveled, and turned them in on R-Day. I believe she was even reimbursed for part of the Wagonlit package (hotel portion). This is one of the many forms the new cadets will fill out on R-Day. So, keep all receipts.

I'm sorry I don't know whether you can be reimbursed for flying in early and renting a car. You'll need to ask.

We drove our daughter up last year and got a hotel for a couple of days prior to R-Day. We asked for a receipt for one of the night's lodging from the hotel and they were happy to break our total bill apart so she had the receipt for the one night, which all WP will pay for. Our daughter turned the receipt in as well as the mileage from our home to WP. I believe she received a little over $400 for the night's lodging prior to R-Day and x cents per mile for travel. We didn't turn in any receipts for food. Didn't think about it and she didn't eat that much.

"I'd like to take my parents on one last tour of the East Coast,"

HM,

Really, you'll get another chance to see them. I promise you'll even have vacations together. ;)

Seriously, it's a wonderful idea. We did the same with our daughter. We all have some very special memories of that trip. Some of our (my) missteps will be part of our family lore for years to come.

dont go crazy about finding receipts...they dont actually ask for them. They have a formula to pay you however much based on how far you travel, regardless of what you actually paid...thats what they did for us this year at least. Going with your family the week before sounds like a good idea too.

woah, I had no idea WP would cover the flying expense and everything else. That's pretty awesome. I'm visiting West Point this March and I can't wait!
