Rejected 2400 Scorers?

Not sure if there's already a similar thread, but are there any 2400 scorers out there who were rejected from top schools (HYPS, Ivies, etc.)? Well, I'm sure there are, but please post stats here!

Ooh, me, pick me! Because Harvard, Yale, Penn, Princeton, and Stanford didn't ;)

I am not sure of the exact number ( I was only half listening) but I heard on the news today that Harvard rejected 2500 applicants with perfect SAT scores and 3500 Valedictorians.

Pretty sure that there are only around 300 perfect scorers per year, making it impossible for Harvard to reject 2500 of them. I could be wrong though.

a guy with a 2400 got rejected from MIT from our school... i'm pretty sure he's valedictorian too, and opened his own community service club, varsity runner, the whole shebang.

MallomarCookie - What were your stats like? GPA, ECs, etc.

chacha - Wow really? Were there that many perfect scorers last year even? Thanks, I'll look more into that.

I heard it on a local Boston station this morning..... I will see if I can get info online......

like I said, I was only "half-listening"... I was getting ready for my Easter egg hunt!:)

Don't be misled. Yes, there may be only 300 perfect scorers per year, but there are loads of 2390s. And the number increases exponentially when you realize that a lot of people retake the SAT, and their highest scores combined can go to 2400. All the top schools take highest combined scores, so it's relevant.
My stats are posted somewhere on this site. Check my post history.

Edit: there was a data set posted on CC a while ago with the number of people who got 2400, 2390, etc. in one sitting...I will track it down.

<a href="http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/4696258.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/4696258.html</a></p>

Here we are:

<a href="http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/highered/ra/sat/SATPercentileRanksCompositeCR_M_W.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/highered/ra/sat/SATPercentileRanksCompositeCR_M_W.pdf</a></p>

According to this data (official set from College Board) there were 238 people who got 2400s in 1 single sitting in 2006.
There were a good deal more people who applied to college with 2400s--people applying for admission to the class of 2011 may have taken the SAT in 2005 (or 2007 maybe...I don't know if colleges took January SAT scores) or they could have gotten a 2400 using multiple sittings. And of course there are those people with 36 ACTs (although these people are much rarer).

"Yale rejected several applicants with perfect 2400 scores on the three-part SAT"

From the Tech on Friday:
<a href="http://www-tech.mit.edu/V127/N16/apps.html%5B/url%5D">http://www-tech.mit.edu/V127/N16/apps.html</a></p>

It's possible they're lurking around here somewhere

I think this must have been the info I heard... this is from an ABC news story:
"Of the 22,955 high schoolers to apply, nearly 2,500 scored perfect on the verbal SAT test; 3,200 on the math SAT; and more than 3,000 are ranked first in their respective high school classes."
So it was not a PERFECT SAT score on ALL parts just sections....
I guess I was one of those "lucky" few, I scored an 800 on math, 800 on verbal and a 760 on writing, and I was rejected!! I guess I was in pretty good company!!

^Yep, raises hand

If it wasn't for that damn writing portion, I could have been one of the really lucky ones to have been rejected with a "perfect" score!!;)

No, it sucks.

I'm with you Mallomar, I am a little bitter about it too. When I got my scores, I was really happy, I thought it would be something that would set me apart.
But I guess not....guess I will have to climb Mt Everest in my next life!

Sometimes I feel that my test scores/grades/courses hurt me. Colleges probably assumed that I was nerdy and one-sided. Do you think it is harder for someone with my (or your) stats to prove that he/she is well-rounded or interesting?

What were your ECs, recs, essays, etc. like?

I have a perfect score, with moderately strong ECs, but I'm hoping that the SAT score will give me at least an extra little push in addition to the other stuff....

I don't know, I don't really do sports, but I did do a variety of ECs but nothing stellar. Who knows, I guess as far as Harvard is concerned, it was a tough year to be a white male from New England! There were probably just too many of us applying. Where are you going to go to school?
