So unfortunately, yesterday I got a rejection letter from one of my top choice universities. I have a scheduled Unified audition February 3rd for this school. I'm confused - do I cancel my audition? I feel as though the theater department is interested in me - they got back to me immediately after sending my Unified Request form with a headshot, resume, recommendation letter, and another recommendation letter from a prestigious national arts program - via snail mail...
I've been told a number of things - mostly to wait a week after my audition and email the department that I feel like the school is a really good fit for me, thank you for the audition, etc... and tell them of my academic decision.

I just need guidance on what I should do. If the school of theatre wants me enough, could something possibly change with my decision?

Unfortunately I think an academic no means an overall no, but if I were you, I would absolutely call the musical theatre department at the school and ask about it. If they say it’s a definite no, then cancel that Unifieds audition and try to do a walk-in with one of the other schools – you never know, you might find a school that’s even better!

Typically, if you have been rejected academically, you will not be allowed to attend. In some cases, the department can put in a good word for you if they love your audition and it may change things, especially if you were borderline. However, it depends on the school. Your best bet would be to call the department and ask what their policy is regarding academic acceptance. That way you will know the answer prior to Unifieds.

I definitely know of one current freshman at a great BFA who was originally rejected academically but was ultimately admitted (late in the game, I think). Probably good to follow the advice from earlier posts and check in directly with the department, though.
