Sigh I didn't like WUSTL enough to cry over the rejection letter, but I'm pretty depressed because now I just don't know about the other reach schools. Anyone else feeling this way? I don't think I can take a rejection letter from all 5 of my reaches.

Hey, no worries. Don’t worry, seriously. It happens; people get rejected from colleges and they move on! I’m sure you’ll get in to other great schools. The thing I don’t like about WUSTL’s application is that there’s no supplement…which you’d think is a good thing b/c there’s less to write, but I like writing college essays just because you get a chance to show them who you are and where you come from.

My point is, it’s one college rejection. You’re going to have to deal with it and I’m sure you’ll get in to a great school. Wherever you end up going, you’ll be happy. And hey, everything happens for a reason, right? You never know what’ll happen so be optimistic! Good luck! I seriously hope you get into one of your top choices!

Fear not. Last year one of my daughter’s classmates was accepted to Brown after being rejected by WashU. One does not predict the other. She’s quite happy at Wesleyan.

my older child was rejected from TWO schools at carnegie melon but admitted to dartmouth and duke; it makes no sense. hang in there. my son just got accepted to wash u after getting rejected from UVA and Duke. good luck----

My God you might not get into ANY ivies?!!

Your life is wasted.

Lol, ******bag of the year award gos to rsingh13.
I was just wait listed and since I heard from WashU way before the Ivies, I feel like this means I won’t be offered a spot. This is just great.

neuroscience, keep your chin up. My impression is that at this level, there seems to be a significant amount of arbitrariness in the admissions game. I’m sure you’ll do fine regardless. If you really want to attend WashU, you can always transfer there after a year. Best of luck!

Thank you guys! You may not believe it, but your words actually make me feel better.

@rsingh13, I am not an “Ivy league obsessed freak” okay? It will be cheaper for people like me to afford going to the top colleges than to state schools because of the 100% need coverage that a lot of top colleges have. :(
For example, the “less than 60K and no family contribution” thing from a lot of top colleges really makes it cheaper for low income students like me to afford college.

@Collegeaspired, yeah I had this gut feeling that no supplements would kill my chances. I do think 2 extra essays MAY have made a difference. I will definitely advice my 11th grade friends to apply to colleges with supplements.

Whatever lets you sleep

I don’t think you should apply to college based on how many supplement essays there are…apply to the schools you can see yourself at. There’s a lot of luck involved, but you’ll end up at the place that is best for you.

waitlisted
4.489/4.00 weighted GPA
33 superscore

I guess not good enough :(

Hey neuroscience,
Don’t worry about it. I got waitlisted (this is also my first reach school decision that I heard from too) and a non-acceptance just feels somewhat on the depressing side of things.

I honestly think that admissions can be so random/a lot of luck is involved, so have some hope for future schools. And even if you don’t get in, the most important thing is that you succeed wherever you do go.

For myself, I’m 1 in my class (4.7 gpa) and I had decent ecs, but my test scores screwed me over (high 2100s and a 33 ACT…not good enough?)

But what’s done is done, you know? Look forward to the future, but live for the present and be happy with what’s up now.
Best of luck!

Son accepted in engineering. 4.0 unweighted and 33 ACT. Full IB. Football captain. 300 hours community service. Hook- will play football.

@computerDad, why would you write that post on a rejection thread? *** is wrong with you?

Don’t worry too much neuroscience, WashU is a top 15 school, so admissions there is still a crapshoot! If you look on this forum, you’ll see that there are many examples of people being waitlisted/rejected at WUSTL, but still accepted into their top-choice schools, including Ivies. Fear not!
Best of luck!

^ What DrSpencerReid said!

I got waitlisted, but after reading a ton of threads about WUSTL and its wait lists, I don’t feel sad anymore. There have been numerous users who were rejected/WL’ed at WUSTL but accepted at great (including HYPSM caliber) schools

Hey, we’ve worked freeeeeaking hard for so long. I’m sure someone will notice and accept us into some awesome school :D

Don’t stress! Because you applied to so many Ivies and other top schools, WashU probably just thought you were using them as a safety and wanted to protect their enrollment rate. I got rejected and after I read their skimpy three-sentence rejection (but really, that was short and rather impersonal haha), I laughed it off. It would have been the furthest and most expensive college anyway, so no worries. :)

March 29th is going to be a bloodbath.

WU is not need blind. Many students from our school, that weren’t exactly stellar candidates, got in. There was one common denominator.

^^houstonmom2 - what do you mean by not need blind? does that mean they kind skew their picks by who can afford to attend?
