I was rejected from Ross and need to pursue somewhat of a business related major in LSA. Unlike many others, I don't plan on having a career in the financial industry (especially due to the fact that I got a B- in econ) Instead I want to do something more marketing/management related. Any suggestions? I was thinking of majoring in either organizational studies or communications with a minor in applied stats or econ so I can gain both verbal skills and quantitative proficiency. I just don't know if I see the point in staying at Umich if i can't study my desired major so my other option is to transfer to a different undergrad business school that is maybe not as reputable. Please help, I'm worried about the job opportunities out there for me if I'm not in Ross!!!

How are your quantitative skills?

my quantitative skills aren’t so great, I got a B- in calc and Econ during my freshmen year. That’s why I don’t know if Ross would have even be good for me and I’m still trying to decide whether to minor in stats or Econ–which would be easier for me?

[Fisher College of Business | Undergraduate Marketing and Logistics Programs](http://fisher.osu.edu/departments/marketing-and-logistics/undergraduate-programs/)

Thank you! I will look into that, so you think it would be a better decision to transfer then?

He’s trolling lol.

ECON at UM would be better then Business at OSU I’m pretty sure. Wait for Alexandre to comment on this.

I think you have many options. The school of Public Policy is excellent. Economics is another great option. Double majoring in Public Policy and Economics or Communications and Economics is also good.

Applied Statistics minor would be really useful for marketing. Its not too hard. It only gets challenging because some of the professors are not up to par

I would not recommend public policy for marketing. On the other hand, consider econ, communications, english, or philosophy even. Take as many marketing electives as you can through the business school and start padding your resume early with relevant experiences.

letsgetloudx33, I hope a post on an internet board isn’t enough to send you off to tOSU. Sparkeye may have other thoughts on that. It does happen that tOSU has a marketing program that is less focused on quantitative skills and I thought it would make an interesting post.

If you are going to stay in LSA, take the next couple of weeks and think about what you are really interested in studying and what you are passionate about. I wouldn’t waste my time with Econ and Stats if that isn’t where your interests lie. It really doesn’t matter as much what it is. It could be English Psychology, Sociology, Communiciations or Asian Studies. If your passion is there, you will be more likely to make something out of your experience than if you take a path that you think someone else will think is good for you.

Be confident. There are a lot of good things in life other than a Ross BBA and a rejection in Choice A means that an opportunity is opening up in Choice B or Choice C. Either that or we may see you in scarlet and gray on November 24!

Thanks so much everyone! I’ll definitely take everything into consideration. Im in love with Michigan too much to go to OSU so no worries there but how do job offers look for communication majors? I’m afraid the skill set gained there isnt enough

College is not about getting professional skill sets, it is about developping analytical and critical reasoning skills that are transferable to all sorts of career tracks, be they academic or professional. As res ipsa very aptly and wisely points out, major in a field that you are interested in. If you do well at Michigan, regardless of your major, you will do well in life. Michigan is one of the greatest universities on the planet and a degree from here will be highly respected anywhere.

Thanks so much, this really helped me a lot. I think I may major in communications and minor in stat. Is stat really that bad especially for students who arent too great at math?

You don’t need a business degree to get into business. You can do Econ, Financial Mathematics, Mathematical Economics, Industrial and Operations Engineering(IOE), Organizational Studies, etc. Just a few examples but not limited to these.
So you can major in anything for undergrad then do an MBA later.

boo hoo, u got rejected from ross. now u are forced to actually learn something in college :)

^Because that makes sense >.>

What was your GPA?
