Rejected from UCLA

no...it is MIT and Stanford for Engineering.

ok guys, honestly, does anyone think that an applicant should appeal to UCLA with a 3.71?? And if yes, how can the appeal process be completed? The reason being is because a lot of my colleagues at school told me that if someone gets rejected from UCLA, it is highly unlikely that they are going to be admitted to Cal. I SERIOUSLY hope this is not true!!!!!

^i just read sth on appeal process for transfers...
and it was pretty crazy.
For berkeley at least, in 2004, 500ppl appealed and TEN ppl got in for fall. You have to have pretty freaking convincing evidence why u wanna appeal..i dunno, like u were on ur death bed and overcame barriers..10/500, 2% success rate, thats harder than getting into haas. UCLA was pretty close.

and i really hope that thing isnt true...getting into ucla and not berkeley...dear god.

0h, heres the link:

Read "College Ranking Exposed"......that book will shake your interest in any of the "foremost" college ranking magazines and sources.....

but, honestly.....a 4.0 being rejected. 3.8's being rejected? I'm so sorry to hear that. I would appeal it, even with a 2% chance. Think of anything that lend sympathy to your cause....
I had a good GPA with some significant personal obstacles......that how I think I won them. Anyway, good luck in the appeals.

UCLA is ing ****.....3.8 EE rejected? and that too for CCC transfer students....we get high priority my ass...UCB has been known to admit 3.75 GPA students for EECS...and UCB is actually a well known engr. school...UCLA isn't even known for that..it's just ridiculous...

yea fei...i hear what you are saying. UCLA adcoms must be smoking pot when they made their decisions for engineering majors. Accepting a 3.42 while denying a 3.71 for Chemical Engineering is complete BS.

mosharma134: UCLA has been known to be the most random in freshman decisions as well...UCB is actually not random at all which is strange because UCB is rated higher than UCLA...one of my friends got in UCB as freshman with 4.2 GPA but got rejected from UCLA

I guess UCLA is trying really really hard to push an "elitist" image...sorry guys you will NEVER be an IVY type college...

being an IVY type college?? LMAO!!! UCLA can never be as good as Cal let alone the Ivy leagues.

when will you guys hear from UCB?

April 29th

did you guys know...although many of you finished all courses...

Applicants who are lacking 2 or more of these courses are unlikely to be admitted.

(Engineering)

thanks indie boy. Atleast now I know why I was rejected. I just can't believe that 2 classes can make it or break it for an engineering major.

Good luck on berkeley mosharma but I still cant believe you didnt get in with a 3.7 regardless of the major that is a solid gpa. If UCB says no I would definately think about petitioning for ucla you deserve it. I would call and demand an answer it seems odd that you'd get rejected unless you really messed up on the essay or have too many pre-reqs missing... you are right about ucla trying to be ivy-leagueish but I guess its that way since all we have comparable to ivy out here is caltech and stanford

thanks for the encouragement mexbruin. I really do need some encouragment at this moment. Thinking about getting rejected from UCLA and then trying to get into CAL is somewhat hard for me to think. If I do not get into Cal (God Forbid), I am most likely going to appeal to Cal and UCLA. Has anyone gone through the appeal process before?? If you have, what sort of things do we write on the appeal letter and how should the format be?? Thanks!

Fei and mo, respectfully...."get over yourselves". you didn't get in, move on with your life. Don't put down such a fine institution and **** on other people's day who actually got in.

They have their reasons. Let them do their job and you all get to gettin. lol <<<have always wanted to say that....

Listen, no offernse to those who didn't get in, but don't **** on other people's parade who have worked their butts off and are relishing this time. that's very selfish....

how is p i s s a bad word? lol That's hilarious....that's not profane!

Don't censor us! We can censor ourselves! Hahaha Just Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't ban me! :)

Bruinmichelle, ya i think it's wrong to bash such a well respected institution, but they are just shell-shocked (and rightfully so) that they did the absolute best they could, and still were rejected. When u pick a ridiculously competitive major, you're taking a big chance. It's like applying to Harvard - getting in is a loooonng shot. It's also like gambling. I considered being a business major early on but decided the risk was not worth the sweat, tears, and pain.

Exactly...next they'll be saying that the Admissions people are _________ (enter ridiculous adjective here) and insisting that the rest of us who got in, only got in because of ridiculous reasons, such as being Asian, a minority, having a disability,or other outstanding circumstance which has nothing to do with merit and that I won't stand for.

Furthermore, you compete with only people within your major, so if you're a Computer Science major and you got rejected and your friend got in, berate him, don't take it out on the next person saying....."oh my gosh, my friend got a 3.2 and he got in, that's messed up!" You have to look at the whole picture.....

Finally, my gosh, appeal it. Again, just appeal it, even with a snowball's chance, go for it! ;-)
