UCLA is just strict on pre-reqs, while UCB is a bit lax on pre-reqs.

blackdream - that's interesting. I am guessing then that i have a far smaller chance of getting into LA because of my missing physics sequence. Oh well.

add me to the rejection list.

3.71 Chemical Engineering major.
The funny thing is that a friend of mine was accepted into their Chemical Engineering department with a 3.42. HOW can this make any sense??? I mean, we took the exact same classes and I outperformed him a little better. It's not like I am bragging or anything because I know that bragging usually doesn't get you anywhere. I am just disappointed. The only conclusion that I could add is that I wrote my personal statement following Berkeley's major of Chemical/Nuclear Engineering. I focused more on that major than I should have particularly for ChemE. Anyways, if I don't get into Berkeley (God Forbid), then I am most likely attending UC Davis.

it's unfortunate to hear your rejection mosharma, because i remember you told us that you got into stanford last year with schloarship if i rememebred correctly.

i really hope you make it in to UCB.edited, meant to say UCB

and just to add a little happiness to all the UCLA engineering rejects......it is better to attend Cal engineering over UCLA engineering anyday......Cal is ranked 3rd in the whole nation while UCLA is ranked 18th.

"and just to add a little happiness to all the UCLA engineering rejects......it is better to attend Cal engineering over UCLA engineering anyday......Cal is ranked 3rd in the whole nation while UCLA is ranked 18th."

also UCSD's bio program is way better than UCLA i believe.

yes blackdream....you are right. I just don't understand this BS that is going on. I should've accepted Stanford's acceptance.....but I was a complete dumb*** and played with my GPA. Went from a 4.0 to a 3.71, and in the end had to pay for it. Financial aid could make it or break it for someone to attend a private school.

Blackdream, I did not get a sufficient amount of financial aid from Stanford, maybe it was b/c my parents make around 80K/yr. Anyways, what has happened in the past stays in the past. I am just aiming for Berkeley as of now.

i wanna cry

^mrpinaple, what r ur stats?
did u apply to other UCs?

4.0 GPA- 62 units completed. all major prereqs completed. economics. rejected. i really wanted to go to UCLA. sorry for my foul language but this is b u l l s h i t for me and all you engineering majors and bus/econs with high GPAs. theres no way i could have done better except join tap but my counselor said i didn't need to. im terribly sorry for anyone who got rejected, i wholly feel your pain. and for those who got in, congrats im sure you'll psyched.

@__@ HOLY CRAP.
You got rejected to econ with 4.0...holy, holy , holy, AND you completed all your prereqs.
Seriously, i would appeal if i were you.

4.0? Boy, your application must've sucked! Just kidding.

You're the perfect candidate to appeal. File an appeal and I'm confident you'll get in.

looking @ the stats...seriously, I can't beleive they rejected you guys...I have a feeling you guys will nail UCB. Hope you guys nail it.

And yes...when it comes to engineering...UC Berkeley is dangerously too good. Heck, forget engineering it is good in several other majors too...take for example english, econ, business..etc etc...just go to usnews.com and click graduate school ranking and randomly select any major/discplin....itz that good.

i was reading the appeal process, and it says (on ucb's site, im sure its similar to ucla's)

"We strongly discourage letters of appeal unless you can provide significant new information for us to consider. Our transfer selection process involves a careful review of the applications, and it is very unlikely that we will choose to reverse our original decision."

because

"Due to the highly competitive nature of our transfer applicant pool, hundreds of students who had excellent academic and personal credentials were denied admission to" ...blahblah"

....so in the case of ucla's econ/bus, its simply a matter of too many ppl have really good stats...so they choose the creme of the crop I guess...ie: tap, high gpa, great e/c..blahblah

i applied to berk and sd sb D I

but they still denied ppl with 4.0 gpa.

and some guys in this forum with 3.8/3.9 gpa also got rejected.

ucla said...they had over 13,000 applicants for a couple thousand spots...so im guessing there were a LOT of ppl with 3.8+

Berkeley ranked #3 in the nation, really? I'm guessing the other two are MIT and CalTech, right?

CC GPA 4.0 bus/econ rejected. 80 units completed all pre-req

mexbruin, no caltech is number 5 or something...

1) MIT
2) Stanford
3) UCB
