Rejected from University of Washington - best option for transfer in the future

I just received a rejection from University of Washington. I cried for a day but got over it, and now am thinking what I can do to make things work. In the e-mail it states “If you choose to reapply to the Seattle campus of the UW, please know that priority is given to transfer applicants from Washington State community colleges with two years of transferable college credit.” I have looked things up online but I did not come across any information that tells me how competitive transfer from Washington States community collegess are in comparison to other universities.

Currently I have an offer from UCR, and got waitlisted from UBC International Economics and have not received any decision from my 2nd major preference with UBC. I understand that attending a university may be safer for my future career, but I absolutely fell in love with University of Washington when I visited it this summer. I even started to work on my SATs despite planning to go to a UK university - although my grades are pretty horrible on both my IB and SATs.

My grades are as following
1810 SAT (550 CR 710 M 550 W) 1840 Superscored (with 580 CR)
My IB Precited grades are 32 total, with 4 for English Lit SL, 5 for Physics SL, 5 for SL Maths, 5 for Econ HL, 6 for Film Studies HL, 5 for Japanese 1st Language Lit HL and 2 for ToK/EE
In my 2nd year I dropped from HL Maths to SL Maths and moved up SL Japanese to HL Japanese.
I am aware of how untalented I am. However, I am confident that I can bump my physics to a 6, maths to a 6, Econ to a 6, and Japanese to a 6 which will total me at 36 with enough work and determination, although bumping my English to a 5 will be challenging.

Can any of you guide me with what may be the best option at this point?

I forgot to mention that I am an international student living in Hong Kong.

Does your message on your myUW indicate a rejection?

The message on myUW still states “Thank you for applying for admission to the Seattle campus of the University of Washington for autumn quarter 2015. We will inform you by postal mail when a decision is made on your application. If further information is needed, we will contact you via the email address listed below. Please make sure your email address is valid and check this site occasionally for information concerning your application. This message will not change unless additional information is required or until a final admission decision is made”

I am currently attempting to write a letter of appeal. As I am absolutely in love with the campus, my description of the university seems extremely cheesy, although they are my honest views on the University. Should I tone down my honesty slightly if it seems too cheesy?

@kh123456789 Were you applying to UW as a freshman or transfer student ?

I applied as an international freshman for the autumn quarter 2015.

@kh123456789 Oh I see. Then I suggest you can start to enroll a community college in Seattle and then apply as a transfer student to UW. I think you will have very high chances of being admitted to UW. Because UW accepts many in-state Transfer students every year. And also starting the first two years in community college in USA is pretty money-saving compare to university. By the way do you mind if I ask, did you know the decision by mail or email first?

I received the decision by email first. I received the decision by email approximately 40 hours ago, and I am yet to receive anything by post.

@kh123456789 Oh I see. Good luck with your other university decisions soon!

@husk888 Thanks! By the way, do you by chance have any detailed statistics regarding how many people from in-state community colleges get accepted each year?

@kh123456789 https://admit.washington.edu/QuickFacts#transfer-admission You can see it here.

@huk888‌ Thanks a lot! That’s a big difference between CCs and universities.

If you are absolutely set on attending the UW, then I would suggest going to a Washington state community college. Most of the CC’s near Seattle are really good and have high transfer acceptance rates. With two solid years of community college coursework, I’m sure you’ll be able to get into some pretty good schools.

Here’s a link to some schools with transfer agreements for Seattle-area CC’s: https://ip.northseattle.edu/transfer. Up until recently, Johns Hopkins gave out guaranteed transfers to international students who were able to pull off a 3.5 and above, and there are many other solid options out there.

Best of luck!

Hey man it’s ok. My act or IB score wasn’t great either but I did do research which is probably the only reason i got in. Students with lower scores than your also somehow managed. Only if your predicteds were a little higher, you might have gotten in. If you were trying for eco than your eco HL should have been a 6 and math sl should have been a 7, or math hl a 6. If u were going for cs then physics and math HL is highly recommended with atleast a 6 in each. UW in my opinion is competitive but i’m sure that there are univ’s equal to UW with high acceptance rate like UIUC, Virginia Tech, PennState etc. and all of them are pretty good for mostly any subject. Don’t worry though. If you have decided on UCR than try to maintain a high GPA and transfer to UCLA, UCSD or even UCB.
