I was rejected for transferring into VSB for the 2nd time now. I was initially accepted into the Class of 2015 in Arts and Sciences. In the few months before beginning my freshman year I inquired about entering the Business school but was told they will need to review my application again. I was rejected and told to try again next year. I finished my first year as a Computer Science major with a 2.8 GPA and applied again, this time I was able to write a compelling statement about why I want to become a Finance major. Again, I was rejected and told to try again for Fall 2013. I already finished 37 credits this year, only 14 of which can be applied towards a business degree. If I was accepted this year I could have graduated in time by taking a few summer classes but if I am accepted (which may not happen) for Fall 2013 I'll definitely be spending an extra semester at nova at the very least, and that's if I spend a summer full time taking classes or taking 20~ credits a semester. Is it worth appealing the decision, possibly attaching a resume, letters of rec., and once again explaining why I am better suited to be a Finance Major and reassuring them that this is really what I want (It is my 2nd time applying they should get the message by now?) or will they just toss this aside and stand by their decision. Or should I just jump ship and transfer to a school that is still accepting transfer applications (I know Drexel accepts them until July)? I don't know what I want to do or what I'm going to do. I know they have made the wrong decision.

Start making transfer applications if you have your heart set on a business degree. Internal transfers to VSB require a great GPA, somewhere around 3.8 would put you in the appropriate range.

You could get a minor degree from the summer business school-- but it cost a bout another $8K.

I know the VBS is a great experience, has prestige on campus, etc, etc… But recent articles are saying business recruiters are looking for liberal arts candidates. Maybe think outsdie the box- take a few community college classes in finance/accounting next summer. Also be sure to attend all the open lectures offered by the VBS. They are really the added bonus.

The Villanova A&S degree is well respected and known in the NE business community. Most employers know that they couldn’t get a 2200 on their SATs to get into the VBS. And kids who are graduating from higher tier schools are having tough time getting jobs too.

So if you do like VU for other reasons- you might want to stay put. But your GPA needs to go up to a 3.3 to get any job in this tough market.

Which you might be able to get at another school & be in their business program. Also your GPA gets a new start when you report it on your resume… don’t under estimate that- but you won’t have the VU career center to use…
