Rejected out of state transfers

Has anyone tried writing a letter of appeal or done any other means as far as still being admitted for Fall09 with a GPA of 3.3 or lower and lives outside the service area? I'm from San Jose and applied last year for Fall09 and was denied my application due to a GPA of 3.0. I spoke with the admissions office today and they said that the minimum for out of service transfers was a 3.3 which was the reason behind my deniel. I asked if there was anything I could do as far as attending SDSU, and he reccommended me to reapply for Fall2010 but there was no gurantee that the minimum GPA of 3.3 would stay the same if not higher by next year.

I've read through a few threads in here stating that I should just write a letter of appeal. However, I'm not entirely sure if that'll be sufficient. My GPA is still above the minimum 2.60 for Criminal Justice, it's just the out of service minimum that denied my admission. Perhaps I could contact one of the deans in that major and see if they can help me in a way? Has anyone done this or heard of someone writing to a dean? Any ideas please? I just want to do everything I could in trying to still being admitted for Fall09. I'd hate to wait another year and still possibly not be admitted due to "state budgets"

if you do decide to write a letter of appeal, I suggest you use spell check. A gpa of 3.0 is not that high if you compare it to the average transfer student’s gpa. (In fact, it may even be lower!) I don’t think there’s much you can do besides writing to the appeals admission. Hey, I got rejected with a 3.7 as a kinesiology major and I believe the minimum gpa required for my major is a 2.5. Anyways, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get in. Try again or go to your backup school!

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I’ll work on writing a letter of appeal. Sorry for the misspells, I just wrote up the post real quick and didn’t bother to spell check. If anything, I hope I’ll be accepted to CSULB, which I’m still waiting to hear from.

Yeah, I still waiting for long beach too. It’s taking forever!!! Have you visited CSULB?

Actually no, I was invited to their open house I think via Email but I couldn’t get the time off work. I called CSULB a few days ago and they told me they’ll have a decision the latest by May 1st if not sooner. Best wishes Kit, hope you get in.
