I was rejected by UCD too and now I have no hope for UCSB … I will have to go to my safety UCR…sigh

Just to let some of you guys know, a 4.0 with regular high school classes is NOT looked at the same way as a 4.0 with APs/Honors or even a 3.5 with APs/Honors.

My son goes to a school where few seniors go on to a four year school after high school graduation (around 17 percent). Davis is our local UC and the university aggressively seeks out students from our school by visiting the high school often and giving admission points for participation in programs designed to assist students in preparing for college. Most colleges could fill their incoming class with a group of statistically high performing students but many schools, especially public ones, need to serve society as a whole by attempting to get at least some diversity in the student population. This will be small solace to those kids who are not admitted. Most are like my son who, at least academically, have never experienced rejection. I can only imagine how bad these kids must feel. Back in the 60’s when I enrolled at Davis admission was assured with a B avg and tuition was under 100 dollars a quarter. Davis had just put in its first traffic light and the student population was around 10000. As the campus has grown in size and reputation the value of my diploma has grown too. For those of you who are California residents you are guaranteed admission to UC with the stats you have been posting. Years down the road a diploma from Merced or Riverside will increase in value just as one from Davis has. Remember the experiences you have during your college years will be among the best of your life. You all sound like great kids and you will do well no matter where you go.

according to this
[University of California, Davis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](University of California, Davis - Wikipedia)

back in the 60’s Davis just joined the UC system officially, I actually agree that Davis has grown into something immensely more reknown as a university.. especially in NorCal

Davis was my nephews first choice. He go into the most of the rest he applied though.. UCSD,UCI,UCR, but not UCB. He’s still waiting for UCSB.

Davis considers the incoming class class the centennial class with the birth of the campus as the University Farm being 1908. Although part of Berkeley for many years the College of L&S, for instance, started in 1951.
Thanks for putting things into perspective 70’s Grad.

UCSD and UCD don’t care about honors and APs as long as you have taken a lot more than the specify 35 a-g and you get extra point.

I remember hearing something like this. Because not all schools can do honors or APs throughout California, it’s not fair to exclude students because they came from a weaker high school. This means that the APs can only get factored in a little.

So instead, what takes priority is Class Ranking. This way you can’t take a bunch of APs and just get away with straight C’s and take advantage of the weighted grades. But if you have the APs and a strong class ranking, this makes it much better.

In the UCD formula you get a weighted GPA for up to 8 semesters of AP’s, honors or community college classes. It helps if you do well. UCD doesn’t use class ranking at all.

I know exactly how you feel. Last year this time I was denied from both my #1 and #2 choices. It felt like a punch to the stomach and the feeling lasted for months. I felt like everything I had worked for was gone in an instant, and meant nothing. However, it’s been a year and I’m doing really well in my current university and have applied for transfer to the colleges I was denied admission to from High School. With a little luck, and God’s blessing, maybe I’ll get in this time around.

Best of luck with your future endeavors, don’t let this setback keep you from your dreams.

No class ranking in the point system except UCSD and UCD give 300 points for ELC.

Okay, I remembered learning something like this though.

The California Master Plan. It’s not just in terms of academics, but everything, which is kind of similar to the point system.

[Major Features of the California Master Plan for Higher Education](Major Features of the California Master Plan for Higher Education)

No UCD gives 1000 points for ELC

so the students whose schools don’t participate in ELC miss out on those pts?

sports61kh: Unfortunately, they do. They also miss out on the guaranteed admissions that UC Davis has been offering to ELC students. California high schools are invited to participate in the program so I encourage you to work with your administration if they have not participated in the past. You can find information about the program at: [Welcome to ELC](http://www.ucop.edu/sas/elc/)

my friend got into sd but not davis. he has 2070 satI and 3.9gpa

yea ELC students are basically in. but this year, some of my fellow elc kids didn’t get it which was very shocking.
i dont know much about davis and its certainly not my first choice. i got in and if i could offer my admission to someone who really wanted to go to davis, i definitely would.
they didn’t accepting so many high achieving students. the admission system completely fails.

I seriously feel bad for those who have considered Davis their number one choice and got rejected.
I have a couple of friends who are in similar situations, but all of them, although rejected from Davis, got into Irvine.
I know that not everyone is lucky in the whole college admission process, but I do hope that all of you will eventually find the best school for you. Also, do consider transferring to Davis as a Junior if that’s where you want to go.

I wonder if this happens every year with college decisions where everyone starts to think the decisions were too random and question if the people who got in really should have gotten in.
Yes I’m bitter that my number one college rejected me and I did at a point think I should have been accepted over certain people with low gpa, low test scores, and very few extracirriculars.
But these feelings do go away after some time and I’m starting to fall in love with UC Merced despite the fact that it’s in the middle of nowhere and not very established yet. Maybe I’ll even like Merced better =)

this is irrelevant, but last year i applied to davis (my #1) and got rejected (from all uc’s too).

work my butt off and re-applied. i knew i had a slim chance but some how i got in this year.

looking back at my post, it seems silly. but don’t give up.
