Davis was my first choice… and in real honesty, it was my ONLY choice. I did, however, apply to every other UC but I had my eyes and heart set out for Davis and only Davis. Today at 2am I checked the website with my friend on the phone, and I literally died on the inside. At school, I couldn’t eat, couldn’t talk… I’m usually one of the most social and “cheerful” guys around but this just killed me. It seems as if everything that I had ever worked for is now just thrown away. I dissapointed everyone: my family… me. My thoughts on my future is now unexplainable.

I’m also wondering, though, how some people with lower stats than me got in. I have a few close friends who’s gpa, sats, e/c, etc… lower if not much lower than mine but they got in whereas I didn’t. The only thing different would probably of been their major (I chose pre-managerial economics).

I can’t give up on Davis… I plan to appeal but I have NO IDEA what to even write. I cannot even begin to write about how much I’ve suffered since finding out today in the morning… it’s really unbearable.

Keep your head up man. I know how you feel right now, I get rejected from UCSB, just keep your head up. Even though you had your heart set on it, nothings worth getting depressed about. Maybe its fate that you didn't get in.

Another factor to take into consideration is the essay. I was rejected from Cal Poly SLO and I felt like I had been bricked in the face, but then you realize it's just undergrad and where you conduct your graduate studies is the most important.

Just brush it off. You'll be all the better for it.

Yeah, listen to California-Bolt. Just because you didn't get accepted into Davis doesn't mean that it's the end of the world.

What you should do now is really look into the appeal (and see if you can get an interview with Davis). If the appeal doesn't get you in then it's Davis' loss. There are many other colleges out there that you can attend.

Holy **** man Karupt, i just check and I was also rejected......I am in the same situation as you, I had set my eyes out for Davis the whole time and this rejection is really shocking man. It was the only college I wanted to go to.....WOW my fellow peers with lower grades, tests scores, and less extra curriculars got in and now I an in dismay :(

Karupt keep your head up. I made it, but I was surprised at how some people made it and some didn't. Usually admissions are a crapshoot at top schools, but I guess it applies here also. My friend got into UCD with way lower stats than my friend who got rejected from Davis but accepted to Irvine. Just remember that if you are planning to go to grad school, undergrad doesn't really mean anything. I know how you feel though, since I don't have a good feeling about my first choice school.

I'm sure you feel very hurt, but try not to to be too down and maybe channel that energy into your appeal...are there any new factors or accomplishments since you applied that you could bring up to them? I agree that if you can, get an interview. Maybe include some recommendations from teachers, mentors or your GC in your appeal. We feel for you. Good luck to you.

It's impossible to just tell you to just get over it now, but by next week, I'm sure you'll feel a bit better. Just because you don't get into your first choice doesn't mean your life is over. You'll get accepted to other places and you'll go there and most likely love it there.

Are you grades alright this year? If they're improving then that'd be a good source for an appeal, I think.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

The funny thing is, the King of the Hill episode where Connie gets rejected from Rice is on right now. I wonder if they did that purposely, probably not, haha. The Dad, rather than getting depressed, just goes wild.

I know it's not the best... far from it actually, but its just that a lot of my friends with lower stats got in.

Well guys, I am beginning my appeal letter right now. I actually have some really good things to write about, but they are quite personal and I do not wish to share it here though. I'll tell you guys how it goes. Again, thanks for all the encouragement and support.

Definitely put everything you have into your appeal, and don't take the rejection too hard. It wasn't personal (although that sounds wrong it isn't).

If you don't end up getting in, I am 100% confident that at some point in your future you'll realize that not getting into UCD was right for you.

last year, there were 35 people that went to ucd from the class of 06. this year, i talked to alot of ppl, and no one i've talked to has gotten in yet.

could it be that they overaccepted last year?

yes they did overaccept last year. it was about 68% acceptance. this year it's around 50% because their yield from last year was higher than expected.

it's ok, i wasn't accepted either even though it was one of my top choices. maybe it is fate.

i can relate. although this wasn't the particular school, i really wanted to go to ucsb. alot of my friends are already going and its a beautiful campus. however, i was rejected finding out today along with uc davis. although i'm still a little happy inside to be going to cal poly slo.

Seriously, don't let this get you down. To state a cliche, "college is what you make of it". As long as you're having a good time at ANY college, then there's no way you can say you would've had more fun at UC Davis. Remember, you can always take the community college way, which saves you TONS of money for the same lower division education you would've gotten at Davis.

dont lose hope
I have a friend who was rejected from both UCD and UCSB today
he has a lower GPA and slightly higher SAT1 and similar SAT2s
he was really crushed too, and lost hope because the only UC he made so far is UCR. being his friend, I completely understand how you might feel. BUt once again dont give up, and yes try to get an appeal through. Good luck to u. I hope that both my friend and you can get through this.
