rejected/waitlisted GW

Wow. I make one typo and she insults my education. Who is this girl? US news doesn't use yield anymore. This is the last message I'm going to post on this topic. It's a waste of time. Ms.thang, hopefully you won't carry a chip on your shoulder for GW for the rest of your life.

...And I recommend not "relaying the story to everyone." It only makes you sound dumb for bragging about a rejection and makes GW sound better for not wanting you.

Aren't you low-ranked types the ones who say "us news doesn't mean anything"? I'm not going to freak out over it either, but us news isn't the only ranking there is. Additionally, I wouldn't tend to think using the wrong word is a typo. A typo can be defined as a spelling or grammatical error--but not knowing the meaning or proper usage of a word really doesn't qualify as a "typo".
As for the story, everyone is either unfamiliar with the school or familiar with it's reputation, and I assure you, everyone finds it completely entertaining...and it really is.

Nice chatting with you. :)

Ms.Thang,
What is your deal, sweetheart? Plenty of kids, my son included, got accepted to GW and to Ivy League schools both! How about that. And, they don't feel the need to demean others because of their failures to score 100% admission rates!

Clearly you either have a chip on your shoulder or a habit of taking pleasure at other's expense. Neither of these are attractive qualities in a person and either probably resonates in your affect to the extent that "you can't fool everybody."

You know what "they just weren't that into you." Get over it and get on with it. You, my dear, are a snob.

Go have your amusement elsewhere.

I believe the word you are searching for is "egotistical *****."

Oh wait, that's two words. Maybe that is why I could only get into lowly GW.

Good defense mechanism. BTW I am too good for UNC, so they rejected me. Perfect logic!

"Aren't you low-ranked types the ones who say 'us news doesn't mean anything'?"

We never said that. We are only countering your argument that GW is trying to raise its rankings by increasing its yield. Yes, there are other ranking, but US News is the most referenced on CC and by Adcoms.

I'm not a snob nor am I trying to demean anyone. I am truly sorry if anyone feels demeaned, but maybe that's not my issue. Not to mention, I don't recall saying that I am "too good" for GW, ever. It seriously isn't a big deal, I don't see why you are all freaking out...it is comical, yes, but really no reason to resort to name calling.

ms. thang - I have to agree with robrym. If you think addressing someone else as "You low-ranked types" is not demeaning, well all I can add is that if this were on the critical reading section of the SAT, your SAT score would have been lower.

How is that demeaning?? Is gw not ranked relatively low? There's a difference between being mean and stating facts.

dear god am i glad that UPenn will get the pleasure of dealing with this wretched creature

Talk about sour grapes

Let's just leave the girl alone. I don't think she meant to sound the way she did.

Pretentious? Maybe she didn't mean to come off that way, but I wouldn't be surprised if she were a snob outside of the internet.

There are about 2500 four year colleges and universities in the United States. By pretty much any measure you want to use GW is in the top 3% with many areas of excellence. If you were in the top 3% of SAT takers you would be sporting a combined score somewhere north of 1400. GW is a goos school and because it has a great location to go along with its academic excellence it has a relatively low acceptance rate.

I went there 35 years ago and back then you could get in with little more than a warm pulse. But then you could have gotten into a lot of schools back then with stats that would earn you a reject letter from Rutgers today.

GW's acceptance rate was 38% last year and 39% the year before that. The average SAT is in a range of 1190-1380. An adcom, when I asked, told me that the average SAT is a 1315. This was at a campus visit. I don't think GW is a safety for people anymore because it is just too random with admissions. I don't think it has Tuft's syndrome or whatever, though.

Waitlisted. :(

G.P.A - 3.95
SAT 1 - 1330 M-660 V-670
SAT II - Literature - 780 Math IC - 680 Writing - 690
Essays: Strong, had my english department look over it, as well as a few family members
EC's - Fairly decent amount, class office, and posistions in quite a few clubs.

What are the statistics on the Wait List? About how many people get put on the list and about how many of them actually get in?

In 2003 about 22 percent of those accepting waitlist status were offered admission. No info that I know of on students not offered admission who are offered spring admission.

"But acceptance rates are, idiot."

Geez. People are so RUDE on these boards. It's like half the people on here have terrible personalities and bad social skills. She was suggesting that Yield was apart of the rankings. That's what we were debating.

If you are trying to argue that GW rejects qualified applicants to keep their acceptance rate low, then you have a point. However, US news only counts acceptance rates as 10% of the selectivity criteria, making SAT and class rank MUCH more important. It would be to GW's advantage to accept the highest numbers possible.

how come this discussion is still going on while my discussion regarding homeless people got closed on NYU forum! *sniff

i saw that and it was just about the most ridiculous thread i've ever seen.
