GW was a top choice of mine and I really thought i would get in...

I visited the campus's and had an interview.
My stats are:
GPA: 3.69/4.3 Weighted
SAT: 2150 (680 CR, 700M, 770W)
ACT: 31 Composite

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I may have been rejected?

Oh! And congratulations to everyone that did get in!! :)

I think they just had more applicants than spaces, and they took a large percentage of the class ED this year. I hope you have better luck with your other choices- you are a classy person.

Read the waitlist thread

It surprises me that you got rejected. But you just got into NYU. Forget about what’s already happened and go there! Great academics, a city school, and cheaper than GW!

@schmohawk,
Thank you, you are very sweet. :)

@esthetique,
I will take a look.

@saman42,
Yes, NYU was my other top choice and, since I was already accepted there, I am not completely devastated but NYU is not cheaper than GW which is something I am very worried about. :/

–

I don’t feel like I deserved to be accepted more than others at all. I am genuinely really happy for everyone who got accepted.

I just want to know what some possible reasons for my rejection may be.

Thanks again for the responses! :D

@esthetique,
I just read the wait-list thread. It was very helpful, thank you :)

Really? Isn’t NYU right around $50,000 compared to GW’s $55ish? I was always under the impression that save a few obscure LACs, GW was the most expensive school in the nation.

^
But GWU is supposed to be better with financial aid is what I mean…

Ohh, yeah that’s true :/

yeah saman NYU is infamous for bad FA.
but cricket, you can always transfer in for sophomore year or even spring semester :)

Lol yeah NYU is actually more expensive than GW. Many people get good aid with GW. Plus GW has a fixed tuition whereas other college’s tuition usually rise each year.

Well let’s not make her depressed lol. Cricket, I would call the admissions office and convey to them that GW is your top choice and that you’re confused as to why you were rejected. Knowing that you’d matriculate might be enough to make them change their decision. Maybe not. The worst that could happen is that they say no, and then you’re right back where you are now, a student who just got into NYU and undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of her.

It’s still possible to get good aid from NYU though. I know a girl who got a full ride.

are you a white caucasian, and did you apply for financial aid?

GW looks more lightly upon white caucasians, and people who don’t apply for financial aid

I got in regular decision with a 3.0 unweighted GPA, no AP classes ever taken and a 2210 SAT score

@esthetique,
Well, I tried the net price calculator for NYU and based on that, I don’t expect to get much but we’ll see.

@saman42,
I think I may email them that, thank you. :)

@kradzzzzz,
Yes, I am a white Caucasian and I did apply for financial aid.

–

Again, thank you so much for all the feedback!!
You have all been really helpful.

@saman42,
If I email them instead saying that I am interested and am wondering why I got rejected, how do you think I should phrase it?

After your introduction and everything, say something like this: (feel free to copy this exactly if you’d like, it’s all original)

I was recently denied admission to the class of 2016, and I have to admit, I am a bit confused as to why this is. I understand that admissions are very competitive and that many qualified applicants will be rejected, but I felt that my stats put me well within range for admission. I am worried that, despite my campus visit and interview, the admissions board may not have seen my interest as genuine. I would like to assure you that it was, and GW is by far my top choice school. I have received admission to many other schools, but I am confident that if somehow the decision could be reviewed, and I could be offered admission to GW, I would matriculate. (even if you’re not sure, just say this)

Please see if there is any way that the admissions committee could review my application again. I am aware that decisions are to be final, and if nothing can be done, I understand, but please try. If there are any documents you would like from me to assist in the review of my application, just let me know and I would be happy to fax them to you.

Thank you very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
cricket

I may rephrase some parts because i am not certain I would matriculate and wouldn’t want to be dishonest but thank you for the example. :)

I will send them something soon!

NYU was my first choice, but I got into GWU. And if your a business candidate like me, your absolutely going to be fine in NYU. Its a great school.
