Rejected...

Hey...Unfortunately, I've just recently recieved my rejection letter from Pepperdine....Although I will not be entering with the freshman class, Pepperdine is still number 1 on my college list and I want to try again to get in....Does anyone have any suggests about Transfering to Peppperdine after a year or two?

OK, I have posted about this before, I really sympathize. My D didn't think she could get into Pepperdine out of hs. She went to a state school and cc her freshman year. SHe worked really hard and finished her first year with a higher college gpa than hs gpa. However, unless you have 30 completed units, at the time of application, Pepperdine treats you as incoming freshman. She applied anyway and kept the admissions counselor posted on her college grades each session. She worked really hard to get good recommendations and the essay is really important too. I think your persistence to keep trying will be an asset. She choice to apply as a sophomore for 2 reasons: first because she really wanted at least 3 years at Pepperdine and because if would be hard to get the classes she needed for transfer ath e college she was at. She was initially WL but was fortunate enough to be accepted! Persistence, but not overbearance is important.
What are your stats? Have you considered applying in the spring?

my stats are okay, but not great..
gpa 3.3 UW
1110 sat
Student council 3 years
Drama Club 2 years
head of food drives

I would consider applying for spring semester...and bringing my first semester college gpa up...hopefully I'll have a chance..

I think most admissions expect gpa's to drop a little in college, so I think the fact that my D brought hers up from about the same as yours in hs to 3.64 was helpful in getting her in off the WL. Also, you should probably start taking college classes in summer or they won't have any new grades to look at for spring. D was very determined and worked really hard. Keep your ad com. upt to date of grade changes...consider trying again on the SAT too. My D is not a great test taker and her SAT's probably hurt her initial app. Good luck.

My friend got rejected freshman year and transferred sophmore year. Start writing you essay now! He wrote a much better one the second go around and I think it really helped!

I to agree that the essay is critical. Write it from your heart, keep it personal, not too broad...let them get a sense of who you are and why you would be asset. A personal experience that changed you or helped develop your character is a good place to start. Definitely get help! Ask an English teacher. Use good vocab and sentence structure! get proofed and re-proofed. Good luck!

thanks for all of the good advice! I appreciate it! After considering all of my options, I've decided I will re-apply for the Spring semester. I will be taking summer classes and fall semester classes at a state college. This summer I will also be volunteering at a vacation home for blind children.

Good luck! And keep us posted:)...focus on those grades and essay!!
