I sent out my notifications to the colleges I am turning down for Rice, but a couple of those colleges were really hard for me to say "no" to.

I was just curious if it would be okay to send the admissions offices for these schools emails? I would like to let them know how much I appreciate their offer and how hard it was for me to turn them down... Just a note of thanks, so to speak.

How often do people do this? Would it be something the admissions officers would appreciate, or should I not bother? Thanks for the advice.

the worst they can do is ignore it, if its something you want to do, do it. I doubt they would ignore it though.

i sent a mail to all the colleges which dint have an online portal… they all replied back thanking me for informing them. So, i guess it was a good idea to let them know.

Yep, definitely do that! I sent emails to the schools I turned down, and most of them responded very very kindly, thanking me for the message and wishing me luck (except for the one school that I forgot had an online reply system… I sent them a letter instead of checking the ‘no’ box, which was pretty stupid of me), so I think your schools will appreciate it.
