For those who did not get accepted to one or more of their choice colleges, this thread is for you. Come release some steam. I plan to write here in a few days. ;-)

i got deferred at UIUC and its been about 3 weeks now...i hope my decision comes in soon, this homey is gettin anxious. It says "Deferred - Manual Review Required."

I'm going to get rejected to UCLA, UCSD, USC (triple whammy!) in 3-4 months so I guess I'm going to steam in advance

optimistic group, you lot are. ;)

18% acceptance rate... I am not optimistic, I am being logical.

emadz89, I don't think you should worry too much about the "deferred - manual review required" at UIUC. Tons and tons of my friends, including myself, were "deferred" at UIUC and then shortly accepted. I think it has more to do with them getting time to look over your file, not necessarily because you didn't "pass" a certain round of admissions. Not positive, but that has been my experience.

thanks sarazlig, that's reassuring. A possible factor could be me being out-of-state, they accept about 10% out-of-state applicants i think.

Ugh, I got deferred from Columbia... and now everyone at my school is getting accepted into all good these schools. Maybe if I had applied to SEAS, I would have had a better chance.
Blah, I really don't want to work on any more college apps though...

No worries. If your a business school applicant... ALL of them go to manual review.

Its on the site ;)

i actually applied as a bio major (LAS). Also on the application page, under degree it says "none." I dont think they ever asked to specify a degree. Is this the same for everyone? UIUC

emazda89, some information about UIUC: Of all those who enroll at UIUC about 10% are non-Illinois residents. However, its acceptance rate for them is about the same as in-state residents, usually about 68%. The 10% enrollment rate simply reflects that only about 10% of the total applicants are non-Illinois residents. Deferred-Manual Review required simply means that you were not automatically admitted by the computer and that human beings will actually review your file. Each college can provide a combined ACT (or SAT) score and class rank above which the computer can automatically admit. That number usually admits only the high applicants and for many programs it admits none because the college or department may insist on manually reviewing all applicants to its program. Moreover, if your high school does not rank, you cannot be automatically admitted by the computer and go to deferred--manual review. Majority of those who go to manual review get admitted. However, you can receive a decision anywhere from days after going to manual review to early February. Thus, though you still have a chance of being rejected, nothing that has happened so far indicates that will actually occur. As to degree "none," that happens because you picked "Biology" as a major. There is actually no "Biology" major because the department has broken things down into more specific majors: Integrative Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Biochemistry. Since you chose just the general category "Biology" you did not choose something for which the computer would show a potential degree sought such as Bachelor of Science. Note, you were not required to pick one of the other specific majors for the purpose of admission as choosing "Biology" means you are potentially applying to all possible majors in the department and you actually do not have to choose until second or third year.

thanks drusba, that helps alot. I'll just have to wait patiently.

Hey guys/gals, just a couple of hours ago I found out I was waitlisted at ISU( not a ivy or top 50 but whatever) so I can't help but say good luck to you emadz. If I can't get into ISU(one of Illinois state schools) then I can't get into UIUC or UIC(haven't recieved the decision yet)...depressing I know but it's reality and the letters are going to come sooner or later. To make this sad post more enjoyable I was accepted into NIU and Elmhurst College, yay( so I do have a future!)

I GOT REJECTED FROM CARNEGIE MELLON. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. sigh, i really wanted to go there for cs. I planned the dorms and everything.

nyu stern reject checking in...

thanks blue, good luck to u too. I got accepted into UIC from out of state, but still waitin for UIUC, i wanna go there now.

jhu reject. i am a rare breed, it is rumored that only 5 exist in the entire world.

after my sat2 scores, i can say bye to cornell.. but who wants to put up with all that work anyways? :p

Hi Drusba:

I have read your posts before on UIUC and appreciate your comments. What is your opinion on my chances. Applied to LAS majoring in actuarial sciences. Had a 29 on the ACT and class rank is in top 15%. I have a very competitive class since my GPA is 3.98, but I am only 11th in class. Good extras etc.. Thanks for your time.

that I applied in Spetember and am still waiting for a reply. Did receive a generic e-mail last week telling me they have not reviewed all applicants yet and hope to get answers out by Jan-Feb.

Thanks again.
