Okay first of all, UCSD has already stated they don't really care about spelling and grammer anyways, so stop being such a prick. And no duh I checked my essays, and besides I don't think UCSD is so obsessed with the essays anyways. Did you just say ELC? Doesn't that mean you're in the top 4% of your class? Didn't you just see me state his GPA and test scores? Yah I admit he's a better writer than me, but still I doubt it helped him a lot more than me. And btw we're BOTH first generation. And ppl here might think I'm saying this because I'm bitter, but I don't care if UCSD accepted me or not because I frankly don't like the school anyways. So I'm really just thinking UCSD is wayyy too random on how the award "points." And yea I'm a bad speller, but that hasn't gotten me down has it?

^
you sound bitter to me haha

^ I agree. This isn't going to help your case by comparing yourself with others. If his essays somehow struck a chord with admissions officers, they might treat his application more favorably. You should have realized that your chances were a slight reach even before the decisions, and his were a long shot. Just because he got in doesn't mean that he stole a seat from you, or that you deserved it more than him. It's not just UCSD that does this, all colleges have these cases. I bet for every 1 you find here for UCSD, there's going to be a similar amount of these cases at an Ivy League. If a 4.0+, 1900 SAT, and shovel fulls of ECs were all that you needed to get into UCSD, why have admissions officers in the first place? Why not just let qualified applicants just sign up for classes right away >_>;;

yeah i dont think UCSD looks at essays much. they dont really look at grammar, etc etc. what i read (somewhere haha) is that they mostly look for stuff that they can give you more POINTS on (ugh points system). like info you didnt list in your application, such as more leadership, special circumstances, etc.

Alright fine I do sound bitter I'll admit it, I just don't appreciate sarcasm. Btw let's just say both of us had "special circumstances," but I'm gald he got in even though it might not seem like it. Yea I know my stats were still not good enough for UCSD, duh but I still got into Davis at least. And you guys might not believe me on this, but I would much prefer Davis over UCSD anyways, and again you guys will think I'm saying this just because I got rejected but whatever.

"you guys will think I'm saying this just because I got rejected"

yes, i do
