rejections?

Has anyone been rejected or deferred yet? My son is very borderline and had all of the materials in by mid October, but still hasn't heard anything. I'm wondering if they have already sent out rejections, or if they hold all rejections until end of December.

I was wondering the same thing, b/c everyone that I have heard from so far has only gotten word of acceptance. I hope not, but am begining to think that they are waiting to send out the rejections/derfferals/waitlists. Another, more logical reason could be that most of the people accepted so far were clear admits, and they just need more time to review the more boarderline apps...Im not applying but my friend is and were both nervous, but december 21st is rapidly approaching only time will tell.... Congrats!! to every one who has been accepted, and the best of luck to those still awaiting decision.

I know of few people who have been deffered and waitlisted already, but no denials yet. They only deny 10% ER, the rest are accepted or deferred, or waitlisted.

deffered? Really....wow. I know people that have been w/listed.

yeah, i think there's some of both that's going on.

Interesting. Last year almost nobody got waitlisted/rejected early on, almost ALL were deferred, then eventually waitlist/reject. I can't say I heard of anyone that got waitlisted this year last year. In case you are all wondering, I was also a borderline applicant (3.6 UW, 32 ACT, in-state), but I heard back in mid October saying I was deferred, then heard back again early November saying I had been accepted (course I was one very few deferred applicants that I know of that heard back so soon, most heard back again in April).

You are probably mixing up waitlist/defer. This early in the process you will be deferred (the likely case) or rejected, not waitlisted. Unless something has changed, waitlist offers usually come at the very end of the admissions process. Atleast that's how its worked in the past.

that's what i thought, cc. but kevin isn't the first one i've heard that from, so maybe something did change.

^do you happen to have the stats of the people you know that got deferred already?

I know one guy was WAITLISTED with a 3.9, 31 OOS (Maryland I believe). I know someone deferred with a 3.8, 29, and a 3.95, 30 (both OOS, GPAs unweighted).

I'll try and find out the other ones for you.

they must have had bad essays?

yea really. or a bad rec

ok, so I found out that the one with a 31 ACT had decent essays and a very good rec, while the one with a 30 had decent on both. 31 had some very good leadership stuff (captain, president of NHS, etc), while 30 was involved in clubs and comm. service, but nothing really stood out. weird though, huh? 29...I'm assuming they wanted a higher score?
