Has anyone heard of rejections being sent out yet? I can't decide whether not hearing anything is good or bad....

or waitlists??

Scitsailor...we haven't heard anything either...waiting...my son is making his choice based on what he has now and will reevaluate if he gets the acceptance letter! What a tough time to be a senior! He is excited about his other acceptances and offers and is receiving emails etc from them all daily. Hang in there...what are your other options?

They seem to be pretty picky in MA. I got my acceptance to Air Force over a month ago, and still haven't heard from Navy.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, from what I understand, Navy is one of the last service academies to notify of acceptances. Hang tight!

You would think that with so many qualified individuals they would notify sooner.

Well right now it looks like i'm going to the George Washington University.

scitsailor,
GW, very cool school--love its proximity to everything--subway stop there too! Can you transfer ROTC scholarship to GW?

no, i have already tried, they will only use it if i go to old dominion. so i think that i am going to do college program at GW

My son just received a letter from USNA today informing him that he had not received an appointment to the Class of 2009. It was a very nice letter indicating a smaller class size and definitely encouraging reapplication if his interest remained strong. Ironically he had decided to accept the offer of admittance to Cornell last night and it went out in the early am mail. He has a NROTC scholarship at Cornell and met with them last week. The timing was weird. He did need an eye waiver and was not offered NAPS but that doesnt surprise us, as his academic stats are very high.

He is obviously disappointed but very excited about the opportunities at an Ivy League school. We live in a competitive area and several in the mix at interview time had not obtained appointments last year and were involved in NROTC or enlisted since their denials. I am not sure if he will reapply but time will tell.

Best of luck to all on this board. You have all helped us so much this year. One thing about this process is that you learn a lot about yourself and your family throughout the two years. We have all gained from this experience and he is pleased to have made it so far in the application process.

I hope others receive good news! Best of luck! Juniormom :-)

Juniormom (Seniormom),

I'm happy that your son is excited about Cornell and that it was his decision. I also understand the disappointment after all of this time. I'd like to thank you for being one of the parents who has been knowledgeable and helpful throughout this process. I wish your son all of the best. Cornell is an amazing school.

Momoftwins~Thanks and best of luck to both of your children! I can only imagine what a difficult few months you have ahead of you sending off two! I get a lump in my throat when I think about graduation!

Thanks, Juniormom. Our high school is having a presentation for senior parents this week called "Breaking Away". I'm pretty sure that I'll move from lump in my throat to real tears. At least I am positive I won't be the only one. Now if I can only get that other girl to decide on a school. At least we're down to only 3.

Juniormom -

Sounds like your son made a thoughtful decision that he can feel good about. Cornell's a great school, and he'll still be able to serve.

Best of luck.

I received a letter saying that I'm on the waiting list... not quite sure how that works considering I don't even have a nomination

Well it's official...I've been rejected. No worries though, I'm still heading out to Colorado on June 29th :)

Cornell? WOW!

Juniormom you must be very proud! Congrats to you and your son!!!!!

scitsailor: I haven't heard anything yet, it would be nice to hear one way or another. Sure would throw a wrench into things though. I have made a decision already however I have heard of candidates changing their minds even after decisions were made. well time will tell. Good luck.

I got my rejection in the mail last night too, was expecting it though because I did not have a nomination.

Now I have to decide between USMMA, USCGA, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign NROTC. I have ruled out USCGA because I know I really want to be in the Navy or Marine Corps. Now I just don't know if I want USMMA or a regular college experience.

Our son received notice yesterday that he has been put on the wait list for USNA.

For those entering the process for next year's 2010 class, our son's experience highlights how the timing of the academy application process can differ significantly based on the candidate and the academy.

He received his letter of assurance from USMA in early August. In contrast, it was 7 months later before he learned about being wait listed at USNA.

Fortunately, our son's preference was to attend USMA and he has accepted his appointment there ( he has sent in his request to be taken off the USNA wait list). If it had been USNA, the extended waiting period would have been agonizing.

Good luck to all those still waiting.

A special prayer to those who have endured the appointment process only to receive declinations. I am truly grateful for your willingness to serve our country and hope you find joy and satisfaction in your journey during the next several years, and beyond.

My son is also waiting to find out about admission to Class of 2009. Our BGO is very hopeful, but I always wonder if that's just to be "nice." Everyday (like everyone else!) we run to the mail box. I don't know how my son is able to be so calm. Maybe he's all knotted up inside!
