I will soon be applying to college, obviously. My top choice is UCSC in California, i live in Florida, and California is definitely my number one choice for college. I'm not sure where to go yet, i want a smallish atmosphere, hippie-liberal type. Not necessarily lots of parties, but somewhat of a cannabis scene. I have a lot of trouble with motivation (ADD), so anywhere with not much work out of the classroom helps a lot. Suggestions for out of cali will help too, just want somewhere that i actually want to do good at, good academics is not much of a deciding factor...like i said, im pretty smart, just hard to find myself motivated to do good in school, so anywhere to accommodate me would be a great suggestion.

thanks

Also, my grades are a's b's and some c's currently have a 3.4 gpa (unweighted 3.8 weighted) and have not got back my ACT scores yet

What is your UC GPA? This is different than your high school GPA, as it only counts the UC’s a-g requirements in 10th and 11th grade. As you are out of state, only AP classes are weighted; honors classes aren’t. UC requires a minimum GPA of 3.4 for out of staters.

OOS COA will be on the order of $50k+ a year. There is little to no aid for out of state students. bopambo’s question applies: how much can your family afford to pay for your college education? Without knowing that, it’s difficult to make recommendations.

Do you want a school that offers support services for ADD students?

No dont care too much for services for ADD, just saying i dont want a school where im going to be having hours of work on a regular basis. Money situation anywhere around 40k would work

I think that you’ll probably find a cannabis scene pretty at much any college. UC Santa Cruz fits all your criteria except the work part, it takes effort to graduate. Maybe some of the California State U’s would work, Chico or Humbolt, I’m not saying that people don’t have to work at these colleges but if you’re as bright as you say, you may be able to do less work to get through. If you want to go to a great school where they might actually help you address your ADD issues, the University of San Francisco is in a prime location, in a great city and has really good student services. They deal with learning disabilities and have the resources to address them. It is Jesuit, but they’re very laid back.

University of Vermont–lots of drugs, lots of underachievers. But honestly, an unmotivated student seeking a cannabis scene at college could be the funniest thing I’ve read in quite a while. Are you looking to bring your motivation down to absolute zero?
