This is probably a dumb question but I was wondering if being a part of a recognized but fairly uncommon faith is considered in the admissions process. I know they can't discriminate because of it but is there the possibility that it could be a URM kind of thing? Just curious. Thanks!

They actually CAN discriminate based on religion at private schools if I’m not mistaken, but it’s very rare. But anyways, if your religion is pretty rare, it could end up being a tiny factor in your admission. Colleges do value “diversity.” It’s not like being a URM, where they basically need you to help their statistics, but more just like an interesting feature that could grab a reader’s attention.

Really? Yikes, then I guess I should omit it for the university of notre dame huh?

No, ND will not discriminate against any religion. Like I said, it’s very rare. ND pledges to not discriminate based on religion (though you should keep in mind how strongly Catholic the school is when just considering the social scene).

Oh, ok thanks-good to know!
(and I’m a bit of a fan of their conservative set up so not to worry)
