I'm looking for some advice on how to remind my professors of my LOR's without sounding rude. One of my more bigshot professors who I asked to write a recommendation is very busy and although I spoke to him earlier this semester and sent him emails, I'd like to remind him that the applications are due soon (beginning of Dec.). Should I just use the "resend" button on the online apps? Or would sending another email or visiting his office hours be considered more polite? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I'm really unsure what the correct etiquette is.

Thanks for your help.

Just go to his office and talk to him. I had to do that to remind one of my prof several times before he wrote my recommendation. They don't mind, they just get busy and forget sometimes.

One of mine even told me "ok, write me an email to remind me in a month, and every two days after that." I'm going to start feeling like a real dick after a few weeks of that, but if that's what he wants...

I have been sending another email the week before the application is due then again the day before. Profs are busy and sometimes they forget, so you definitely need to remind them. A day is more than enough time to be honest, as they will probably only spend an hour at most, regardless of how much they like you.

The profs I know actually want me to bug them as the deadline approaches so they don't forget and screw you over. That is the last thing a prof wants.

send them a thank you note for writing the letter. it will bring the letter to the forefront of their minds

Do you think it's better to send them thank you note after they wrote or before they wrote ?
