Should I nudge my prof about letter of rec since deadline is this week and he hasn’t submitted it?

My first deadline is 2/1 for transfer apps, after that is 2/15. One of my professors has submitted his LOR but the other one has not. I am wondering if I should wait and see or if I should send him an email?

I just don’t wanna upset him and make him write a worse recommendation or something but he can also submit after deadline I’m pretty sure.

Thanks.

I’m a professor at a community college, so I often write letters of rec. I always tell me students to send me reminders. If it’s a professor that you’re comfortable enough with to have asked for a letter, I cannot imagine them writing a bad letter just because you sent a nudge.

Just make sure that your reminder is polite and thank them for their time. You can also ask them to please let you know if they are unable to write it so that you can ask someone else. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that, but it’s better for you to know now.

Draft letter here - leave out things you would write to a friend, like “haha” - I dislike getting emails like that from students.

Dear Professor X,
Thank you again for agreeing to write me a letter of recommendation. I know you’re very busy, and appreciate your time. I wanted to remind you that the deadline for Y is Z. Let me know if you need me to have (Common App, Coalition, etc) send you another link. If you’re unable to write this letter, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Agree that a short, polite, appreciative email reminding him of the deadline would be fine.

Thank you!!
