Rendezvous Restaurant

With sushi, you just gotta wonder how much they'll actually give you... They'll probably give you a huge serving of white rice or something to fill you up... lol.

Knowing the quality of sushi they serve in the dining halls, the Rendezvous sushi will either not contain any fish or contain minimal amounts of tuna. At best, it'll be like the nigiri sushi they offer at Tsunami's sushi counter.

Anyone wanna share their critique of Rendezvous?

not the best asian food (it is still dorm food afterall), but best you can get for a meal swipe. i'll be eating there a lot. :D

i thought the mexican side was pretty good but i dont know what "good/authentic" mexican food is supposed to taste like.

They killed the orange chicken. It was too sweet and soggy. The portions are tiny (and not cheaper than Panda Express like the article suggests). It's not really worth the wait unless you really crave the stuff they do have. But it's still better than dining hall food.

VTEC, you were right. All the hype didn't deliver!

And ahhh... the 100% biodegradable junk! Everything is all flimsy and/or ugly looking (like it came from the trash). They're getting rid of the nice black plasticwares at Bruin Cafe / Puzzles / Crossroads next year. :(

Hey, as for the Mexican food, as long as it tastes comparable to Taco Bell or Del Taco... then it's good enough. And we know how authentic those places are :D.

I don't think it's fair to put Taco Bell in the same sentence as Del Taco (unless you're talking about how much better Del Taco is than Taco Bell).

Completely and utterly agree. You have no idea how much I want Del Taco in my drunken state right now, and how much I wish there was a Del Taco in Westwood.

For the record, sushi in Japan even tends to be rice heavy. It's very rare that you find the sort of tasty rolls with funky sauces that are so common in the US. In fact, they call that "Amerikan sutairu" [American-style] here.

But you can get some really NEAT types of sushi here. Since I've lived here, I've eaten:

horse
live squid
baby fish ball (basically a ball of baby fish on a piece of rice)
urchin (though that can be had in the US at some places)
natto sushi (ugh...)
hot dog sushi
corn sushi
baby shrimp sushi (just a lot of baby shrimp on a slab of rice enclosed by some nori
and whale (yes, I know, I'm going to hell)

And I hear somewhere in Japan, they use fish sperm. But to be honest, that's too weird even for my tastes.

People eat sushi with "funky sauces" here (i.e. sauces other than soy sauce)?

Yeah, just go to some of the "designer sushi" restaurants, and you'll find all kinds of "fusion sauces."

I don't even go to sushi places that are that sexy, but they have plenty of "funky sauces."

PS See you in you hell.
