DD won the Rensselaer Medal, but I have gotten mixed messages from other parents about putting it on the Common App because other schools may see her as more likely to accept RPI’s offer and that would be a strike against her.
Any thoughts?
Thank you
@Chicago50 Same. My D was nominated for Rensselaer Medal but has not heard back about that. It seems similar to the Furman Scholar and Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award that she did receive and are associated with particular colleges. I keep hearing that it is not a good idea to list at other college applications. I’m following to see what responses you receive. Any college AOs able to chime in?
My D won the RPI medal 2 cycles ago and she did not put it on her common app at the recommendation of her GC. .
My son received the medal as well. My feeling is that it will help to mention somewhere in the app. Will be following this thread.
I may have spoken too soon. The certificate the school sent over just said “Nominee”.
I hate to hijack my own thread but if she is nominated by her high school, how will she find out if RPI accepts her nomination? Our school has awarded this in the past, but communications are a little sparse right now. If the timing differs by region, it may help to know we are in the Chicago area.
I don’t know anyone whose school nominated them for the medal who didn’t get the merit scholarship.
We would be very interested in others’ thoughts on this as well. We just were notified today from our high school that our daughter was selected for this. We are just starting to look into it but it does seem like a nice scholarship opportunity!
