Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2025 ED EA

And I’ll repeat one more time, no one diminished anyone’s success. Sorry if you’re overly worried about your child’s potential. Or feel the need to live through their successes. Goodness, they flat out denied some kids with 1400 and 4.0’s. Get the chip off your shoulder.

Just jumping in to say that when I first read @MomWAZUto2 's comment I had to stop and re-read since at first glance since it sounded like a slight to TO applicants. I could be wrong but I don’t think it was meant to offend anyone or to diminish anyone’s success. I re-read it more like this:

My kid was deferred. And today friends say RPI has extended RD to Feb 15th. They originally extended to 1/31. They must have (a) lower (number of submitted) applications (so far), and are unsure about (how to fairly evaluate the applications from) the “test optional” kids this year.

Anyway, I’m sorry for butting in. But college admissions is already a stressful process and with all the challenges and confusion of this year, we are all a little extra on edge!

I answered your question about why I used a certain emoji. I thought this had been put to rest a week ago and yet today you were still referencing it. If you have anything else you would like to discuss please feel free to message me directly. I promise I don’t bite, I just happen to have a different opinion than you on this particular topic.

No worries jumping in! I had thought this had been put away already until I saw the comment today. I replied for the last time and asked her to dm directly if she would like to continue the conversation and stated we just have a difference of opinion on this particular topic.

How does RPI’s CS / Computer + System’s engineering program compare to Ga Tech ? Assuming there is no other merit financial aid offered by RPI, is there anything that would make it worth giving up GT (Provost in state tuition scholarship) for? I unfortunately am not able to visit campus but am from the Northeast (RI).

Last year (2019-2020) they added an EA option only for medalists and with no application fee - it was announced at the Medalists open house in Sept 2019 as a new program. EA decisions were released in mid-December. This year many EA are releasing in January.

My son just declined his admission to the College of Engineering. Hope this frees up a spot for someone waiting for an admission decision. Wishing everyone all the best wherever you land!

How much is the medal scholarship?

Which schools went through their entire wait list last year?

$30k/ year renewable for 4 years.

I remember Muhlenberg, F&M, & Bard off the top of my head. Not big ones with longer waitlists. But there was a big increase in the # of schools that reopened admissions in May of 2020.

What do you mean reopened admissions? They accepted new applications?

How selective were they?

Yes. Accepted new applications. They didn’t get enough deposits to fill a freshman class and had already run though their waitlist.

No idea. Most are smaller private schools. I doubt they are in the 40% acceptance rate or below. Bard said they lost students who wanted to stay close to home. I’ll bet the private price tag played into it as well, with job insecurity. If my kids started last year, Binghamton would have been their only choice.

In general, not just RPI, how would we know that they are accepting new applications in May, if they do it again this year?

Is only option - checking their websites?

That is commendable, thanks for sharing that!

The NACAC website will have a list posted in early May. Someone on CC will post a link, but you can also go to the website directly.

This might explain why my daughter - who was already accepted - received an email the other day to tell her there is still time to submit an application! It sounds like they didn’t bother scrubbing their mailing list before they sent it. This might actually be good news for her because we could use a little more merit. If they need students they might give her a little more. I won’t hurt to ask I suppose.

Can one go back to RPI to ask for more merit without a better offer from another equal/better ranking college.?
