I know pre med isn’t a major (didn’t intend for it to come out like that in my post, bad wording).

Yes, most students in my class that I’ve met, interested in pre med here, are biology or chemistry majors although there are a number of BME’s too. Engineering is not recommended for pre meds because of the difficult courseload and major really is not factored in medical schools admissions, but I’m not dead set on medicine as a career and am genuinely interested in biomed engineering. And if your medical school hopes disappear, you can still have a successful career in BME. RPI does have a high match rate of applicants into at least 1 medical school, but as JoshuaGuit pointed out, only the very serious end up applying.

Do you have any idea how rpi weighs regents exams?

I’ve had consistent mid-high 90s on all of them, even in classes which I had mid-low 80s in…

TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY EVERYONE!!! (:–just thought id say that

Congratulations!

My son just got accepted ED. We are all thrilled. He knew this was the place after the October open house. What an incredible job RPI’s students and faculty did to show case this great school.
Our family surrounded my son’s computer awaiting a response after entering his Password. It felt like 10 minutes eventhough it was just a few seconds.
Congratulations to all got who got to experience the joy that we did this evening!

^sounds like our house! My S was accepted as well. Now onto negotiating financial aid and choosing a dorm…any advice from recent RPI grads? The dorms are different from my RPI days, I hear there’s A/C in the quad! Geez, these kids get everything!

Thank you @dadinator
Is anyone planning to attend the accepted students thing happening in april 2013?

Yes! Even if my son doesn’t want to go. Ha Ha!

Congratulations to all and great story 219Engineer56!

The accepted student’s day is all well and good but it’s really intended for students who are undecided about attending RPI and there is little opportunity to interact much with other students.

As for dorms, it depends on what you’re child is interested in. The freshman dorms are Barton, Bray, Cary, Nason, Crockett, BARH (also houses some upperclassmen) and Quad (also houses upperclassmen). Barton is unique in that the rooms are triples; all other freshman dorms are doubles. I live in Barton and it’s the nicest IMO. The rooms are very roomy and nice and there is AC.

I can answer questions on the freshman dorms, but I would highly suggest visiting RPI and looking at the dorms to better decide the ‘best’ one for you.

**Housing is done based on when the deposit is received so you will still get near first priority as ED students if you don’t send in the housing forms until spring.
