Rensselaer Polytechnic (RPI)

Hi,
I’m currently a junior. My SAT score is 1140 (CR+M) ;1740 (CR+M+WR). Yes, I am completely aware that my SAT score is no where near what it should be. I plan to take the ACT Plus Writing and the New SAT. Is there anyone from RPI that could tell me from personal experience about their engineering/science program? I am thoroughly interested in the school. I already checked the website and would like to know more. Also, how does the system for dual majoring at RPI work exactly? I’m confused as too how one can qualify.
Much appreciated.

I would go to the RPI reddit and ask the current students. They seem very helpful.

Hey! I’m finishing up my freshman year at RPI, a mechanical engineering major. What exactly do you want to know about the engineering/science programs?

As far as dual majoring, you just declare your majors and are assigned an adviser for each major. If you come in with one major, you can always declare a second.

Also yes, for RPI reddit is a great resource and more active than CC.

@anotherstudent3 There are no requirements to dual majoring? I am interested in the electrical engineering program at RPI. However I also want to look in the Physics programs they offer. How are they?

For details about dual majors at RPI, see http://admissions.rpi.edu/undergraduate/academics/dualmajor.html

If you look on page 3 within https://www.ecse.rpi.edu/images/pdf/Templates_complete_class18.pdf, you can see an example of the course curriculum for EE/Physics as a dual major.

@phatphysicist Instead of double majoring, you may want to consider a college that offers an Engineering Physics Degree (sometimes called Applied Physics). This degree is usually a combination EE/Physics Degree. At some of colleges, this degree is an accredited engineering degree. For example, IIT offers BS in Applied Physics and Cornell offers BS in Engineering Physics,
