Hi. I’m applying for UC’s and cal states and I was wondering if I have to report both grades ( old and new ) of my repeated class . Thanks
UC’s require you list both original and repeat grades but only the repeat grade is calculated into your GPA.
For the Cal states, you just enter your repeat grade if a Freshman applicant. For transfers, you enter the repeat grade with a RP notation.
Thanks for replying to me. But In calstate application you can either put a grade or RP. I don’t think you can put both. Right ? I have friends that only reported the last grade they had after repeating the course and didn’t report their first grade as repeated and they got accepted to many schools. I wanted to do the same but I’m just afraid taking the risk.
From the Cal State apply instructions for Freshman repeat courses:
Repeated Courses:
If you repeated a course, enter the highest grade(s) earned for the course. Do
not enter this repeated course twice.
If the repeated course is planned or in progress, enter the original grade earned,
as well as the planned or in progress course as a new grade has not yet been
earned.
For Transcript entry of repeated courses:
Repeated Classes
Indicate if you repeated any of your courses. Courses should only be marked as repeated if you repeated them at the same institution (i.e., you retook the course for a higher grade). Withdrawn courses, courses taken at different schools, and courses taken multiple times for new credit (i.e., school band, physical education, etc) are not considered repeated.
Record full credit values and grades for all repeated courses. Cal State Apply is required to include all repeated courses in GPA calculations, regardless of an institution’s or state’s academic forgiveness policies.
If transcript identifies the course as repeated and excludes course from institution GPA, enter a grade of RP.
Thank you ! So it seems for me as a transfer student I have to report everything , the original as RP and the new grade.
Yes, according to the Cal state apply instructions. Just check them again when filling out the application for this admission cycle since they have revised their instructions before.
