Hello, was wondering whether I should repeat MAT 16B if I got a D in the class, or go to 16C… The math series does count for Man Econ, I believe. Thanks so much!

I don’t think you can move on to 16C if you got a D in 16B.

You’re lucky…and you’re not.

There had been a requirement to take 5 courses (2 calc, macro, micro, and stats) with a GPA of 2.8 to be accepted for Management Econ. Until that time, a student was technically a pre-major. Under that, they would accept up to your second try at any of the above courses. You would have had to re-take Math 16B.

But they just changed it this summer, getting rid of the pre-declaration GPA requirement. See the letter at http://agecon.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate-program/files/2012/letter-entrance-requirement.pdf . Frankly, it is now easier to become a management econ major.

But you still have to take a year of calc, and as usual, all courses needed for a major must be passed with a grade of C or better. So… you still need to re-take Math 16B.

Forgetting about the Management Econ issue for the moment, why would anyone want to move on to a “c” course if he doesn’t understand the material in a “b” course. Sounds like a recipe for further disaster. I would take 16B again, and attend small group tutoring at the SASC center. If that doesn’t result in a good grade, I personally would re-evaluate the choice of any math-based major.

Thank so much! Had a feeling I should waitlist for 16B classes.

can you link me to where it states this on ucdavis.edu? I tried searching for this answer but I cant find it stated anywhere.

^ Try this one [UC Davis General Catalog | The Major](http://catalog.ucdavis.edu/academicinfo/major.html) . This page discusses the “C” rule for several colleges, but in addition, many majors have requirements stricter than their college.
