repeating sophomore year

hey guys! i'm interested in applying for boarding school for next fall's entry. i am an international, and as the calendar for the schools in my country do not run from September - May, i am currently in the midst of freshman year, and would graduate at the end of 2014. As such, if i do attend boarding school next year, i will be 2/3 through sophomore year (in my current school) next fall.

I suppose most people wouldn't want to repeat because they don't want to go to college later, but with my current system, i will still end up going to college in the fall of 2015. So if i were to repeat, I'd still be going to college in the same year as my friends. I am not too worried about the age thing. However, I was thinking, if I have already learned the material taught to sophomores at boarding school, due to being a repeat, is there a chance that i will feel significantly not-challenged?

Thus I was thinking, would it be better to apply to repeat sophomore year, or to go straight to junior?

You have to remember that classes are badsed on the level you perform at, not grade. An example is like how i’m planning on taking pre calc next year as a freshmen. If anything, BS would challenge you to the most, despite your grade level.

I think it’d be better to repeat sophomore year. You can always jump up a level, like swimdude006 said. So you can stay where you feel challenged regardless of grade level. And you might feel a bit disadvantaged if you jump into junior year without fully completing your sohpomore year. Junior years is notoriously on of the hardest (at least at my school) and one of the most important for college. I think it’d be better to have a firm background before taking that on.

@SamanthaWasHere - that makes sense! :)

Thanks guys!
