Reporting Schools Attended

I have a pretty weird situation, but long story short, I got rejected from UCI my first attempt, re-applied for the next year just in case, and just found out today that I got in.

I started taking classes at IVC about a month ago, but these classes were not noted in my application. This part scares me:

Your admission to UC Irvine will be withdrawn if you do not satisfy each of the above conditions or any information you submitted does not agree with official documentation, including failing to report all schools attended, or all A-G courses completed (original failing grades and grades for courses repeated). You are solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all information reported on the University of California undergraduate application for admission and scholarships.

Could taking those IVC classes jeopardize my admission? My acceptance was kind of a godsend, a "second chance at life" if you may; logic tells me that these classes wouldn't negatively affect me, but.. it's best to be paranoid. If I have to drop them, I'm okay with that, although of course I'd rather not.

Halp?

These courses sound like EXTRA courses you decided to take AFTER you submitted your application by 11/30/10. This should in no way affect your admission offer. If you’re sure you are going to get better than a C in the courses, report them and continue on. If you are unsure that you will get better than a C, drop the courses right away.

Can you explain a little more? You got accepted as a freshman? Is IVC a community college and are you attending the school as a full time student?

Thanks thebeeber; that’s exactly what I thought but… this is a huge deal and I didn’t want to just trust my own reasoning haha.

@oceanpartier: I got rejected as a senior from UCI, so after some time I applied again, this time for the next year, still as a freshman. IVC is a community college, where I take four courses.

@AAR … Well, thanks for thanking me, but now that I’ve read your response to @oceanpartier, I want to explore further. After your senior year graduation, did you take courses at at any CCC during either Summer 2010 or Fall 2010? If you did, there might be a problem with your original application if you applied as a freshman. I think once you take college courses after high school, you are eligible to apply only as a transfer. Even if you didn’t take CCC courses during summer and fall. I’m a bit concerned that even taking a Spring 2011 course may trip you up. I’m not even talking about what grade you earn; I’m concerned that some clerk sees your CCC transcript in July 2011 and decides that you were ineligible to apply as a freshman.
You’re probably on a razor thin timeline here, but if I were you, I would phone or email to UCI admissions right away and tell them your situation and ask specifically if taking a spring semester course would in any way invalidate your status as a freshman applicant. On the 5% chance that they say it would invalidate your application, I would drop the course. Of course this would be totally unproductive to your education, but big institutional processes have a habit of screwing things up. Best of luck.

What type of classes are they? Are they non-credit ones like those “learning-for-fun” classes or are they transferable to the UC’s? If they are transferable and you are enrolled for the spring semester, you might be in trouble. If you go through with those classes, I don’t think you will be considered a freshman applicant. If you have already taken classes for Fall 2010, you are not a freshman applicant.

The best thing to do would be to call them directly and ask them about the situation. See if they’ll let you drop the classes if its not to late or something like that. Its better to take care of it now than to have them think you are lying later on. Good luck.

…And of course I check this thread a month too late, a month after the deadline for dropping classes without getting a W.

I am taking one class (Music 1) that does not transfer, another (WR 101) that qualifies as “lower division writing,” and one (ANTH 2) that does transfer. I did not take any classes during the Fall; I started in January.

I’m seriously freaking out right now, it’s 8:30PM so obviously I can’t call the admissions office but at the same time I don’t even know if I should… I mean, what if waiting a bit beforehand would help since they’re still accepting people right now and cancelling me would make room for someone else? I don’t even know if that’s a rational concern but I’m kind of past being rational right now.

Oh, and after checking MyTests it turns out that UCI is waiting on my AP Economics:Macro score, despite the fact I never took the test. Since I took a gap year, I sent in my application in Nov '10, so there’s no way I would have indicated that I was planning to take it in May '10. I don’t understand why that’s there.

Great, another sleepless night…
