Request for Mid Year Reports

so i receieved mine today! anyone else receive one?

what does this tell us about the status of our application? are they kinda 50/50?
Anyone know how many people who receive these requests are usually accepted? Percentage-wise..

Heres mine:
AP Eng LIt: A
Choir: A
AP Enviro: B
AP Gov: A
Psychology at college :A
Sociology at colleg: B

will it help?

...and is it okay to only submit the mid year requests online or do we have to mail them as well?

i called the admissions office on that one..

they want us to BOTH submit it online AND mail it in as well

self-reported grades without verification will not benefit u too much

it's like self-reporting your 9th-11th grade grades but never mailing USC your official transcript

bananna_girl,

Did the request come via snail-mail or e-mail? It seems like a lot of USC applicants are getting the mid-year transcripts this week...

snail mail....and i called the admissions office they said submitting the grades online is enough...the lady specifically told me.. and i quote: " that's why we sent you the website to post your grades"

so for the record...you don't need to mail them!

bumpppppppp

If your grade are better now than before, yes it will help. If not, no, it probably won't help. Your chances probably went down a bit overall, because 15% of the spots have already been used for admissions. So your chances went down 85/100 times...

D got the same thing and we did both. Posted online and mailed.
Her semester grades were:

AP History B
AP SPanish A
Calculus A
AP Biology A
AP English B
Church and religion A

languages...does that mean we're borderline?

i think if they request for the 1st semester grades, it means you are borderline. Otherwise, why would they ask?
I was sent a request for my 1st semester junior year (I am applying to RHP).

Grades:
AP Env. Science- A
AP Eng. - A
Spanish 3- A
AP US History- A
Trig/Math Analysis- A
Journalism- A

I assumed I was borderline for RHP because the admission officer called my home, requesting my 1st semester junior grades. Hopefully I get in.

Do you think they will distinguish between pluses and minuses?

doubt it because the percentages for pluses and minuses vary between teachers and schools, so itd be a little unfair for some people

not sure. It may also mean that they are trying to figure scholarships out for the associates and the dean's

What if i took a college class for credit during my first semester. Do i report this as well? Because online, only grades for my high school classes are available.

And how do you mail a midyear report?

ay banana girl, did u get the midyear grades notice separately or did u get asked for your midyears in ur scholarship update letter.

They asked for midyear grades in my scholarship update letter. I'm pretty sure they asked for it in every scholarship update letter.

cowtipper1 and ucplaya05: You mean the scholarship letter where they say you aren't going to receive Trustee/Presidential right?

It seems like there was only one letter that went out to notify applicants that they didn't receive a presidential or trustee scholarship. The last paragraph of this letter says to send the midyear grades now.

I don't think anyone got a letter that JUST asked for midyear grades, correct?

I got one just for my midyear grades because I applied after Dec. 11

Dear ______,

Thank you for your strong interest in the University of Southern California and for submitting your admission application to our freshman class. We have completed a preliminary review of your application file and are writing to request further information.

Specifically, we would like to see the results of the first semester of your senior year course work before we take final action on your application. Please take a moment to submit your grades directly to your application file by using our secure web site http://www.usc.edu/MDYResponse. The online process will prompt you for your USC Application ID number, which is XXX-XXXX-XX, and your password, which is your date of birth entered as six digits, in this format: mmddyy. If you are unable to use the web form, you may mail your courses and grades to the address below, to teh attention of "USC Admission - Mid-Year Reports."

We hope to receive this information by early March to allow plenty of time to meet our commitment to notify you of our decision by April 1. It is important you use either the online process or address noted above, even if you believe your grades have already been sent to us. We receive lots of mail every day, and these methods will help us quickly identify your information so we can begin preparing your application for final review.

Thank you for your prompt response. I wish you well in the remainder of your school year and look forward to working with you further.

Does the last paragraph of the No-Trustee/Presidential-Scholarship letter count as a specific request for midyear grades?

I thought everyone who didn't get trustee/presidential and applied by Dec. 11 got that letter?

StressedOut-
Yes, the last paragraph counts as a specific request for midyear grades. When I called admissions the day we got the letter, they confirmed this and told us to fill out the form on the website AND send transcript.

They also told me that everyone who didn't get trustee/presidential and applied by Dec. 11 got that letter. It looks like there was a second letter that went out to those who applied after Dec. 11 that also asks for midyear grades (see etti above.)
