rescind applications to other schools after acceptance

i am sooooo thrilled i got into cornell :D

anyway, so what's the rule? do i have to rescind my other apps before i get their decision? i understand that this could possibly let a person who actually will be considering the other school a chance at getting in.

so, does anyone know how to rescind apps?

i have to get this done before dec 15, because that's when i'll get my uchicago decision

I think it’s advised that you don’t withdraw any apps until you receive the official letter of acceptance in the mail. Also, I think you’re supposed to call the school and tell them that you’re withdrawing.

haha ok. =D
thanks

When do you think the official letters will come in the mail?

I think very soon (although I live in NY so it may be sooner for me); I know kids in NYC got their letters from Columbia today (same day they released decisions)…

Yeah hopefully. I live in NY too so should be one of the first as well.
How many of those kids you know who got a letter from Columbia got in. My school had a hard time with them this year, i think we are something like 0/10 with a few deferrals but i still dont know about a few kids. I know Columbia is a very hard school to get into but every year we get at least 1 kid in.

If you are applying for FA, you could wait until you receive your package. You don’t need to do it before Dec 15 (or any of your EA dead line). If you were accepted to Chicago, your ED commitment over rides EA decision. Another word, you wouldn’t be able to accept Chicago’s offer if you were accepted to Cornell ED.

I only know of 2 kids (not sure how many applied). And good point oldfort…thanks. Do you know if FA will be released online or in the acceptance letter? Or even in a separate letter?

i am not applying for fin aid. ima just wait for the actual, tangible letter =D
also lol oldfort, i know. i’m well aware that ED overrides EA. =)

It usually arrives as a separate letter from the FA office.

My daughter still has not received her official admission mailing, so I’m nervous for her to withdraw other applications. How much is the deposit? Should we just send it in? She goes to boarding school and I hate to think it would arrive at her school after she leaves for break. What is the deadline for the deposit to arrive?

deposit is $400…but they gave us a special card etc. in the acceptance letter…deadline is January 14th, although they warn that their office will be closed for a bit
