I got an email today saying I was rescinded to UCLA. I had to drop a class this semester to help take care of a very sick loved one. It is a pre-req for my major, but the only one I will be missing, and my major is one of the least competitive at UCLA(Afro-American studies). I've applied to UCLA four times, HS and the last 3 yrs from CC. It's the ONLY school I've ever dreamed of going to. Is there anything I can do? Appeal? Anything?

You can try to appeal because it is new compelling information. Although this is new information, missing one prerequisite may outweigh that information.

Try to take the class in the summer and include it in your appeal?

@SpencerStueve Did you get the email because you submitted an academic change on the portal?

I think you should submit an appeal because they might let you complete the pre req during the summer. Good luck

Yeah. I submitted the academic change. I’m planning on appealing. I also emailed admissions back pleading my case. I called the phone number they gave, but no answer. I’m willing to make the hour plus drive to UCLA to hand them any documents proving my reason is legit. I think they saw me say it was for a medical reason and probably assumed it was BS.

At a giant bureaucracy like UCLA, it may be a computer that rescinds people without any human intervention. I would definitely appeal.

@Spencer how long did it take for them to respond to you?

@biotoUCLA I submitted the academic change on April 27th and heard from them today.

If I were you I would try to find the same class in summer school and enroll in it ASAP. Then when you write your appeal, you can tell them that you fully intend to complete the course before the fall quarter and you can show them a copy of your summer schedule.

Lol they’re really not kidding when they say they will let you know within 15 working days. I agree with alicantekid, you should do whatever it takes to get the summer course and show proof.

Missing one pre-req for that major normally wouldn’t get your admission rescinded. I’m a philosophy major and I’m missing 2 pre-reqs which my CC didn’t offer. If you’re gpa is low, you’re not IGETC certified, or there’s something else they don’t like about your application, then the missing pre-req will at that point come to bear.

Do you have a transfer adviser at your CC that has any expertise with UCLA apps?

@BruinRex That’s why I’m so shocked. Only one missing class for one of the least competitive majors in the school. I’m going to UCLA tomorrow to talk to someone in the admissions department. I spoke with an advisor at my school transfer center and she was just as surprised as I was.

I think the reason why he was rescinded is because he dropped a class that was offered at his CC. If it was not offered, then UCLA wouldn’t have beef with it.

You’ve applied to UCLA for the past 3 years coming from a CCC? How many prereqs does Afro-American Studies have?

Two. I just changed my major this year from Philosophy.
