has any body been rescinded from a uc? ucla in particular...

i just spoke to my cc counselor who said my D in math 191/ calc 2 basically guarantees my being rescinded. still haven't received official word from UCLA....

yeah, my friend got rescinded from UCLA. when did you notify them?

not to freak you out, but just because they haven't said anything, you are not in the clear. my friend made a mistake about this. i suggest you give them a call and keep checking your mail! they sent my friend a formal letter.

good luck man, seriously! i hope you can tell us some good news later! =)

@xleper17 -- what were your friends circumstances? Thanks for your help. I'm keeping in touch with an admissions officer.

//edit, nvm I found your previous post regarding the friend: Straight C's. damn. The only other grade I had at the time was an A in my Bio class, which I reported. Did she notify them though?

Best,
Shaan

@beardy -- UCLA requires major prep work to be DONE by spring before transfer, summer is only okay for IGETC / GEs

yeah, she notified them as soon as the C's came out. She only had C, C, C, C, and B. They called to see what she got in her last class, luckily an A.

Sadly, this did not change their decision. It was an A in her major class and one C was in a 1.5 unit class, but they really didn't give a pooper. It took them about a week to reply to her.

Maybe prepare your appeals process? I'm not sure if you can still do it, I believe they have to give you a fair shot at it, but that's just a guess.

shaan best of luck. i haven't heard of anyone rescinded from ucla but my friend got rescinded from ucsd for getting 2 D's in some of the IGETC classes.

@xleper -- I know these are really arbitrary questions but I'm a little curious, can your friend still get into my.ucla and ursa and all that jazz? Thanks for your help i realllllyyyy appreciate it.

My post will be mean and heartless but non the less it needs to be said.

Most CC applicants are right around the 4.0 mark during application time. Considering you are BizEcon, i am going to assume you did not get in with a 3.0 or with a 2.0. So now, unless you had some extremely difficult circumstances that truly warrant you getting a D in a preq course I feel that UCLA has every right to rescind and actually should. UCLA has standards to maintain and when students get close to perfect and then slack of in the end it is really not the fault of UCLA and as such I do feel that in ALL of the cases i see on here of poor spring grades the students should be rescinded and rightfully so.

yeah, nothing extremely difficult: i was overseas for 2 weeks due to family obligations, had to work more hours than i'd hoped bc someone was out sick where i work (ophthalmology clinic), and began volunteering (teaching prisoners and early parolees how to use computers / reintegrate into society). oh, and a notably difficult course load overall.

I know UCLA has to maintain their standard, but you do know that GPA has direct relation to workload? Most CC student come from a financially disadvantage family. They work while attending classes. Like myself, I am a science major. I cannot financially afford to stay in CC for more than 2 years (and I don't want to), therefore I finish most of the pre-req in 2 years (science!) I am take 3 science classes (ochem, bio 1B, physic), calculus 2 (an intense weekend college class) and a psychology class this semester (total of 23 units) just to transfer on time. Of course, my GPA drop as a result.I almost get D in physics. I went to class seven days a week, with a total of 43 hrs per week.

i'll try not to offend anyone here.
i know that everyone has their circumstances.
sometimes things are harder than initially thought to be.
but life is about choices.
i m a firm believer in full time student/full time worker. either or.
i feel that to choose to work and study and then apply to UCLA... it is possible but isn't that kinda under estimating the system, or even the difficulty?
i was a science major i fully understand the workload and the difficulty.
+ ur working 43 hours thats just insane, atleast by my standards

if u take ur time, apply for scholarships, finan aid and all sorts, UCLA is not a dream, but biting more than one can chew can only lead to disaster. i don't quite under stand the "i cannot financially afford to stay in cc for more than 2 years"
cuz i thought due to financial circumstances people choose to stay longer and save $ along the way to attend the UCs?

A friend who I was hoping to room with got rescinded from UCLA. She got 3 C's in transferable courses, so yeah. It sucks, but that's what happens. Either way rshaan, I hope for the best! And I agree with what xleper said up top.

stay posted, rshaan, i'm not sure whether or not she can. i'll ask when she comes on.

but really, freaking out isn't going to make you feel better. =/

i suggest you start your appeal letter, it better be DAMN good, and contact your professors for letters of recommendation. so in case you get it rescinded, you can call admissions and ask if you can still appeal. chances are they'll say yes.

I was is the situation to almost get rescinded from Cal.

When spring grades came out, I had an F in my Calculus course. As you know, anything below a C equals death to admission. I thought it was a mistake, b/c I had a B+/A- going into the final, so the only way I had failed is if my professor lost my final/felt like giving me a zero.

I emailed him, and after two very stressful days of waiting, he said he had no grade recorded for the final. Later that day, he found my final, and gave me the grade I deserved.

But seriously, isn't this the worst thing to happen to a transfer? especially spring quarter/semester?

My whole world was turned upside down. I had to withdraw from my previous college(UCSC) b/c I obviously wasn't planning on coming back in the fall, and then that grade came out. If it had stayed an F, I had no idea what to do for next fall. It probably would have meant I wouldn't go to any four-year institution.

orion...wow, that sucks. At least you got it cleared up.

I do understand that universities need to uphold a certain academic standard, but what are students supposed to do if they get rescinded? Take the year off? Maybe I'm just a softy, but I don't think a person's entire admission should be solely dependent on one poor grade.
