Rescinded

Would I get rescinded from Brown if I got a C in Multivariable Calculus. Btw I am majoring in mathematics. Any input?

No, you should be fine! A C is still passing; don’t sweat it. You have to either fail classes or have disciplinary problems to have your acceptance rescinded.

None of us really know, unless we hear from someone who has actually had this happen to them. In the letter they sent with our acceptance it says something to the effect of finish your Senior year strong as your admission may be rescinded if you receive any grades lower than the ones you submitted for which you were granted admission. So I would try to not get a C if there is any way possible. Also from an admissions officer: “Your senior curriculum (and the grades earned in those courses) are part of the credentials you presented to us when asked to consider you for admission to Brown.”

This is 6 years ago now, but I got a C my senior year of high school and my ED acceptance to Brown wasn’t an issue.

@bruno14‌ What was your C in?

I’ll go along with lax1997 and say it’s impossible to say anything with certainty. Among other things, it may depend on circumstances peculiar to the applicant.

My take, though, is that it’s highly unlikely to be a problem. My understanding is that, at the very toughest, a school would look askance at a post-acceptance C, and look to the student for an explanation of what happened. Only in the absence of some tenable explanation would they rescind an acceptance.

Somewhere out there on the Internet, I once read something purportedly written by someone from the Dartmouth admissions office that said Dartmouth generally requires an explanation for a D and lets a C go - but that Stanford wants an explanation even for C. In any case, even if Brown is so hard-nosed that they want an explanation (which I think is unlikely), the fact it was in a class at a higher level than most of the people they’ve accepted have taken would be an explanation in itself.

The “majoring in math” is a non-issue, I think. Unless I’m way off on how Brown works, so far as they’re concerned, you’re not majoring in anything yet.
