Rescinded

I recently got accepted to SEAS at UPenn and now I'm really worried about my grades. Senioritis has kicked in big time for me.

I flat out admit I'm just an O.K. student and am probably extremely lucky to be accepted but I for sure don't want to miss out on the next best four years of my life just because of some poor grades.

Penn saw these grades (1st semester senior grades) and has accepted me:

AP Government: C
AP Chemistry: B
AP Environmental Science: B
AP Literature: B
AP Statistics: A

Now I will probably end 2nd semester like this:

AP Government: C
AP Chemistry: C
AP Environmental Science: B
AP Literature: B
AP Statistics: A

Is getting a C in Chemistry enough to warrant a recission? Engineering is focused mostly on Math/Sciences so I'm wondering if I am cutting it too close here. Thank you in advance.

I don’t think that you will have to worry at all about being rescinded, but it never hurts to be cautious. I have heard that one must literally be almost failing out for it to actually happen. If you had all Cs I think you would probably get a warning. Don’t push it though, maybe try to bring up Government and Chem so you feel more comfortable.

i went to one of the penn preview days the other week and got a chance to talk to the admissions officers about this. they said that it’s ok if you get one grade lower than you usually do in your classes (i.e. a B in a class you usually get an A in) and that you might receive a phone call if you have straight C’s and definitely if you have some Ds/Fs

Relax. I’ve interviewed for years and never have had an acceptance rescinded because of grades. You are fine. Worse that could happen, and this is unlikely, is a “wake up” letter. The only time I have heard of decisions being revoked are for cheating. Enjoy your senior year but do try to pass your exams…

What you get on the AP Exam’s will matter more than the grades you got in the class. Getting a 5 on AP Chem will allow you to test out of hard engineering classes while getting an A gets you nothing.
