Hey guys I’m so worried!!,
I’m a student who got into CMU Econ as a ED applicant.
However, I received a D from physics…Will this be able to rescind the decision?
My rest of the grades are consistent and got an A for my major subject Econ.
Thanks guys
Hmm…possibly. ask your guidance counselor.
If only 1 grade then probably not
You really should contact the college, not your GC. They may require you get that to a C by year’s end or place you on academic watch. Get in front of it now.

Good advice. A “D” will likely result, at a minimum, in CMU’s investigation of what they should do.
Will they still take strong actions when physics is not even one of my honors, and is not related to my major?
Except for this course, I got all As…
Best course of action is work to improve your physics score for the final semester. If you can bring your grade back up it should not be an issue.
What have your grades been in science and physics leading up to this? Was this just a one time deal or do you regularly struggle in science/physics?
You should talk to your teacher to try to get that grade up and maybe get some tutoring.
No. Pp until the senior year, my science grade has been an A. But my original teacher was substituted to another, whom I have trouble getting used to the new teaching styles and materials.
They wouldn’t rescind me without giving me a chance to explain right…? Hopefully…? So worried…
They’d probably want to at least talk to you about it. If you’ve been rocking a ~4.0 UW all this time, I’m sure they would hesitate before rescinding you. I think you could be able to explain yourself somehow, or your GC could explain.
Contact the college. Give your explanation since it seems valid and a promise to do better next semester. At best, they won’t care and you’ll be reassured and at worst, you’ll receive the same repercussion you have if you hadn’t contacted the college, and it will probably be less since you took the initiative to get out in front of it.
Yes they could and would rescind you for a D. Some colleges have a basic policy to do so absent any reasonable explanation. It doesn’t matter if it was related to your major, it is a core coursework for selective colleges. I would talk to my GC asap before I contacted the college, s/he may have a suggestion for how to approach it. You really should have got on top of it, and now you will have to be sure to bring it up for the year end grade. X fingers for you.
