Rescinding My Application

I recently sent my RD application into Princeton, but due to certain issues, I have decided to not apply there. The whole application isn't complete yet (I haven't done the Writing Supplement) but they do already have my application fee and Common Application. What do I need to do to cancel the application?

I don’t understand - you finished the main CA materials, and clicked “Submit” but the Writing Supplement, which is not required, was not completed and you don’t plan to complete it?

I thought if a Writing Supplement was required, you couldn’t submit the CA without it?

I would call admissions and ask, they would know what you need to do. Perhaps you’ll have to email them from an account listed on your CA to confirm that you are you and ask for your application not to be considered.

@rhandco‌ no, supplements are submitted separately, depending on how the school sets it up, although the application may or may not be complete without it.

You can leave it and become part of the “incomplete” statistics, or call the admission office and ask to rescind the application.

FWIW, my son was looking at Penn, and I believe their website says that they review all applications even if partially complete, so yes, it would be polite to call Princeton and tell them to remove your application from consideration.

I don’t know if “rescind” is the right word, but that shouldn’t matter. Maybe “recall”?

I believe the correct term that we’re looking for is withdraw. I don’t think they’ll refund your money. I just wouldn’t submit the supplement.

E-mail Princeton’s Admissions office, indicating your desire to withdraw your application (it’s that simple and it’s the proper/polite thing to do).
