Rescinding their offer

Hello all,
I am very ill right now with a serious case of senioritus. Im looking at an F for AP stat on my final grade for this year. All my other classes will be A’s and B’s. What are the chances PSU takes back their offer for University Park. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You’re ill with senioritis? Are you kidding me? I think you’re in serious trouble.

Is there no chance you can get a C in stats? What is the issue?

Many colleges will see a student with D or F as someone just not even trying…if that happens PSU may rescind your acceptance, in the absence of extenuating circumstances. Senioritis is not an extenuating circumstance.

So even though I’m still graduating since I have all math credits needed, and my major is agriculture which stat is not needed for, you really think they will rescind all because of one F? I’m no dean of admissions but this would seem to be a bit radical.

Penn State will not even ask for your final grades. They will want to know that you graduated and that’s it. If you need that Stats class as entrance into a specific major, that may cause you an issue. But the F won’t matter because Penn State won’t see it. Make sure you get your advice from people experienced with Penn State specifically because while Penn State doesn’t consider senior grades at all, that is not true for all colleges and may in fact cause major issues at other institutions.

^Thanks for the info. OP, just take this as a lesson - you can’t slack off in college and get a break like this.

Penn State does require final transcripts. https://admissions.psu.edu/info/accepted/finalhstrans/

Have your GC do some legwork to find out whether a D or F might be an issue, that is part of their job. Good luck.

Edited to add: PSU went to SRAR a year or two ago. Since then, when they receive final transcripts they validate each grade entered into SRAR, which of course wouldn’t have initially included grades from second semester senior year…so they will certainly see your senior year grades. How they react is unknown, but again, I would have my GC have a conversation with your AO.

Personally, I wouldn’t call attention to the D or F on the transcript by calling admissions. If the grade wasn’t needed to get you admission (which is wasn’t because senior year grades are not considered) and you don’t need it for your major or to graduate high school, I’d leave it alone. You can check with your guidance counselor, but I wouldn’t call admissions to point it out. They want to know you graduated and can still be in the major they accepted you with. This question gets asked every year and I’ve yet to see it affect anyone. There’s always a first time, but I doubt it.

If your done with your math requirement then it shouldn’t be an issue. Just push yourself to get a D or maybe a C? Just think of all the ice cream you’ll be munching at the creamery… lol
